  • Food poisoning has put me off

Erk, yesterday I got food poisoning from my induction friendly lunch in a pub- I had a grill of chicken, beef and bacon, with a fried egg and salad. I've been violently ill for the past 24 hours and now I can barely think about that kind of food, let alone want to eat it. Even the thought of cheese is turning my stomach! When I ate again it was something off-plan (ice-cream, I was roasting and my fella got it for me because I couldn't cool down) and I feel crappy.

I don't really know what to do, what can I eat? Meats, eggs and etc are making me feel so ill now.

Hi, I know exactly what you are going through because I had the stomache flu last night and it didn't end until this afternoon. I hadn't eaten much all day but maybe a couple of sugar-free jell-o cups and some crystal light which I added to my bottled water. For dinner I took a can of chicken broth and a cup of sliced mushrooms and a cup of celery and cooked them together until they were soft and I found I could definately tolerate that.

Sorry to hear you have been stricken by food poisoning.

AS suggested by Kim, soup is a good way to get your veggies in when you dont feel up to solid food.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Oh Miss Seaneen!! First your cold and now this. I got food poisoning from beef once and it was almost a year before I could eat it again. However, it looks like you had just about every Atkins-friendly food at that one meal, so that puts you in a bit of a pickle if you are turned off of all of it.

Starting with soup sounds like a good idea. I'm not a doctor (for sure) and not as knowledgeable as some people here, but I think if you are really turned off of the proteins right now, maybe you could follow the maintenance plan for a while? Have the occasional low-carb bread and some fruit and yogurt and veggies, maybe some legumes for protein. Then when your stomach and psyche are up to it, go back to where you are now on the plan. It's not ideal, but it could be a way to make sure you don't gain weight while you are still feeling grossed out from meat and eggs.

Re: Food poisoning has put me off

I'm back on, mostly. When I was getting over it, I couldn't eat anything, and needed something proper because I was half-fainting. Looked at the cheese, the chicken and my guts turned. So I got some low-carb pasta and had a half serving with some tuna- not ideal, but not the worst sin.

Have been good today with chicken salad but haven;t managed another meal. I guess I'll get back on, will just be on a really dull meal plan as I honestly can barely think about the foods I ate before without feeling ill.
