  • Is this even possible??

Ok, so i started atkins yesterday, and i weighed myself in the morning so i could start tracking my weight, i was 205 lbs. but when i weighted myself last night ( i know i shouldnt be standing on that darn scale so often) i was 215!!
So i just dismissed it as i had read the scale wrong in the morning, and therefore made my weight ticker start at 215. BUT i weighed myself again this AM, and it reads 205 again!!!
I know that a persons weight fluxuates in the run of a day, but is 10lbs a normal jump in one day???? And do you think i should say i'm 215 or 205??

    HELP! i'm totally confused.

Look out fat! This body ain't big enough for the both of us!!

I'd strongly suggest you get new batteries for that thing or invest in a new scale!

10lbs over the course of a day, with eating, drinking, bathroom habits, water retention etc isn't impossible - but it's improbable. I'd take the 205 reading if you're not going to replace it being that's the reading you got twice.

    Oh..and STAY OFF THAT SCALE

Hi, my scale has been doing the same thing but I think the best time to weigh yourself is right when you wake up in the morning before you've had anything to eat or drink. I need to also get out of the habit of weighing myself frequently because it's only frustrating me more...

I definitely weigh more in the evening. I'll have to weigh tonight and tell you how much more, but I know it is SIGNIFICANTLY more, at least 5 lb!

That's just the way my body is!

I know the feeling... I have about a 3-5lb difference between the AM and the PM, sometimes. Other time it may be consistant.

During the course of the day you add water, salt & food. Plus your hormones and meds can also cause fluctuations sometimes over a few days. Try to take what the scales say with a grain of salt and go with the 1st in the am (after you use the restroom of course)

Okay, first, WOW, J, LOVE your current pic and you on the bike! I want one!! But...I have an 18 yo son who would want to ride it, too...and he's so much like his father, who I knew at that age, with a bike...oy....can't handle that just yet!

Second, Ms. Film (do people use their names around here? I haven't seen too many...feels weird just using the screen names, but I do understand about privacy)..
Repeat after me: THE SCALE IS A RANDOM NUMBER GENERATOR.

Forget the reports that you should weigh yourself every day...weigh in every week, keep a record, watch the TREND. Weigh 1st thing in the morning, or at least at the same time of day every time you weigh. I know people who weigh, then pee, then weigh again. This is the stuff of which crazymaking is made, don't get sucked into the trap! I heard a TV trainer once say (Michael Thurmond, I think? I always get his last name wrong):
"You don't walk around with a sign that says '205' or '157'..."

Measure your success by how your skin and hair and nails look, by how your clothes fit, how your posture improves as you increase your fitness level and take strain off of your skeleton, by how strong you become as you learn to BE ON YOUR OWN SIDE by staying on PLAN.

Ooops, did I get on a rant??

Scales are useful for recording a trend, but please oh please don't let one dictate whether you are going to have a good or bad day, or let yourself get crazy over daily fluctuations!!

                Re: Is this even possible??

My scale has been up to 10 pounds of a difference. Use your morning weight. Then when you do weigh, do it in the morning after using the bathroom and before you get dressed.

Usually it's a 5 pound change for me, but I've been at 10 before. It's usually after a high sodium dinner.

I splurged today with a larger than usual portion of roast chicken, with salt & pepper. Big mistake - now I'm guzzling water like crazy ever since and still thirsty. Maybe that's not so bad, all that water, but I will DEFINATELY NOT look at the scales tonight!!
