  • Cheated on 3rd Day!

I'm disappointed in myself, yesterday after following the diet pretty well, I cheated! I had a handful of almonds and 3 strawberries. I was desperately hungry and I just indulged.

I'm back on the wagon today and I now always carry my trusted water bottle with me. I find that chugging water will ward off those hunger pangs and headaches. This is much harder than I thought!

We all have down days, and occassionally we fall.
You've got the right way of thinking though. Identify where you've gone wrong, admit it to yourself, and jump straight back on

Just keep going .. Tomorrow starts off cheat free!

Ask yourself why did you grab those foods (self sabotage?)
When there was many other alternatives you could have.

Perhaps go and prepare those alternatives now.

      Cheers

Thanks for the support! I know that I now need to bring prepared snacks with me like celery and cream cheese or something like that. I'm sitting at my desk chugging water right now, contemplating what my next snack be.

Good to hear you are back on again. Just don't give up.

I was tempted yesterday but I asked myself is it worth it (?)

            Answer: NO.

I feel that I have to say NO NO NO to break thru the cycle.

Yes the water is hard. I think I'm drowning.

But I've read how much the water can make a difference.

I see we started the same day but I have 20 pounds more to lose than you.

Keep it up Minnie - you can do it.

I know you are upset about cheating, but I can't help but think that at least you cheated with healthy foods instead of something like doretos or cookies. Hey in a couple of weeks (if you choose to move up the ladder) you can eat those nuts and berries.

For now a no no, but at least you are making plans to keep your snacks handy. Good luck!!

still have a few more pounds to go!!

Make sure you have phase appropriate snacks with you or have access to those snacks. They can be as simple as a can of tuna, a few hard boiled eggs, sliced pepperoni, veggies and dip or even cheese.

Also, you can take tylenol to get through those headaches and such! I've had to reinduct a few times more than I'd care to admit, and tylenol really does help!

                      Re: Cheated on 3rd Day!

After a cheat you just jump right back on. Only if you've been off plan for some time do you go back to to the start or, if beyond induction, then you go back there just until you get back into ketosis, then move back to where you were. Pls correct me anyone, if I've got this wrong.

You said you were desperately hungry. You shouldn't be hungry on Atkins, so do prepare legal snacks to avoid falling off the wagon. If you're hungry, eat...but don't gorge... just eat until your hunger is satisfied (I know, easier said than done). If you're not sure if you are satisfied then stop and wait fifteen/twenty mins and then see how you feel.

Hang in there... you can do this, and it's so worth it! Believe me, it gets easier as you go along.

                        Re: Cheated on 3rd Day!

The 1st 3 days of induction are the hardest; then it suddenly dawns on you, usually 48-36 hour in, that your cravings haved dropped incredibly and you have a burst of extra energy. At the point you cheated, your body was most likely totally out of fuel and still in glycolysis, having depleted stored glycogen, and since you had not yet switched over to burning fat for fuel (lipolysis/ketosis), your urge to eat peaked. You need to get switched over, but since you did'nt cheat very badly, your glycogen should run out quicker from what carbs the nuts & berries had left over after your body's immediate needs. Same for the pancakes! In the mean time, you're putting your system through H**L if you continue the on a day off a day cycle.

Try extra water & sipping bouillion along with light induction menu till you get through the bumpy part.

"yesterday I made pancakes for my little girl and I accidently had 2 bites :=("

How do you *accidentally* have two bites of something?
Chica, if you're cheated, OWN it. Cuz until you really really GET that you are powerful and YOU are in control of your choices, stuff like that is going to keep "accidentally" happening. If you have to talk smack to your food and yell at it, then do it. When I first started on my weight loss journey, I had to walk out of the room and cuss and beat a pillow sometimes. It's not easy, but it IS possible, and YOUR BODY is worth the extra effort.

A little discomfort now prevents a lifetime of discomfort later.

Out of curiousity, why no nuts on induction? 100g of walnuts (the bag I saw anyway) had 3g carbs and a ton of good fat. Ideal induction food, surely?

Dr Atkins considered one ounce of nuts as a good snack for after induction, but how many of us can eat only one ounce when we are struggling in the beginning?

It would be only too easy to go over the limit!! Also some people report that nuts lead on to other off-plan eating!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
