  • Cheating AFTER Induction...

Opinions on this seem to vary so I'm looking for a little clarification here. When you cheat--as in carb loading or venturing into foodstuffs that aren't part of your particular rung--in a post-Induction situation, does it always mean that you're to completely restart Induction? Some have argued that it's ok and that you're even encouraged to cheat occassionally. My 30th birthday is coming up in about 3 weeks and I'm sure there will be cake and pie and all sorts of other sweet things there. This would be just over two weeks after I'd completed my Induction. So if I were to have a piece of cake or something would that cause me to instantly regress and have to start all over again? Please advise.

If your cheat throws you out of ketosis, you'll have to go back to Induction for several days, get back in ketosis, and carry on.

Before you make a decision to cheat, I suggest you read Chapter 17 "Uses and Abuses of Induction" and "The Wrong Way to Do Atkins". If you are willing to chance increasing your difficulty to lose weight or re-activating your metabolic imbalances that can make losing weight difficult, then at least you know these are the drawbacks.

I had my bday in induction too
for me, what felt right was to have a "maintenance day"
so I didnt count carbs, but stuck to food acceptable on maintenance..
      it worked for me!!
had a great picnic: roasted chicken, garlic and cream-cheese dip, pork rinds, eggplants, and marble cheesecake with fresh strawberries.... it felt decadent and celebrationey and luxurious...

maybe you plan ahead of time what your birthday strategy is gonna be?

This would actually be two weeks after I've completed induction. But the answer I was really looking for was in your post--cheesecake! I'd forgotten that a low-carb recipe for this was acceptable. And I'll be just starting my dairy rung that week, so it's perfect timing. Yay for me!

I've never made cheesecake before but aren't there other ingredients and a fair amount of sweeteners involved in the cooking process? Someone suggested making a crust with crushed almonds. That almost sounds appealing.

The almond crust would not be induction-legal, but would be fine once you reach the nuts/seeds rung of OWL.

Here is an induction-legal no-bake cheesecake recipe
              http://users3.ev1.net/~FONTLADY/no-bake_cheesecake.html

On the same website (Linda's lowcarb site) there are several other recipes, the ones OK for induction have an asterix (*) beside them to help you stay legal
              http://users3.ev1.net/~FONTLADY/dessert_recipes.html
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

                Re: Cheating AFTER Induction...

oh, I just tried a cheesecake that tasted considerably better than all the other ones I tried:
                http://users3.ev1.net/~fontlady/moms_cheese_pie.html

I made mine with no crust, and love it just the same!

ah, and last time i mixed some of the filling with cocoa powder, and added it in: marble cheesecake!
