Just curious, but has anyone ever had issues with bowel movements when beginning induction?
The book does not really address my problem because it seems to be opposite of what most others experience. I am not constipated but get diarrhea for days and days. I tried starting up about 2 months ago but quit after 4 days because it was so bad. I was on the toilet 5-10x per day and I finally gave up due to the resulting pain.

I am planning to start once again tomorrow and I was wondering if anyone else has gone thru this and what might be done about it.

    Thanks
    Rich

just out of curiosity are you eating anything with polyols/sugar alcohol or aspartame in it? A lot of sugar-free, lo-carb products have these in - these are the devil for my gut at least!

Carbaholic's right. You may have to do a squeaky clean induction with no artificial sweetener at all. It doesn't affect me in that way, but it causes me to have serious sugar cravings...thus leading to more sweetener and tempting to eat the BAD stuff.
Hope that it works better for you the next time. Make sure that you replace lost fluids with plenty of water!!!!!!!

No, I was clean which is why it was so frustrating. But, this was a couple months ago. I am beginning again so hopefully it will be more pleasant this time around.

It could be due to the fat you are eating. If you're going overboard with the added fat, you can expect diarrhea or loose stools. An old fashioned remedy for constipation is 1 tablespoon of olive oil or food grade heavy mineral oil.

Just remember, while Atkins is a high fat diet, you don't need to eat jars of mayonnaise or pounds of butter. 1/2 to 1 tablespoon of added fat to each meal is more than enough.

Geez, good to know it isn't just me. I haven't touched anything loaded with sugar alcohols since I restarted induction, but it feels like I eat about ten sugar free candy bars a day!

              lol--talk about EMBARRASING!

yikes, ok well--I might as well air it all out here and dish the gossip. I can't believe I'm doing this. hahaha.

I've been having regular bowel movements everyday until today. This morning things were a little--er..strained for lack of a better term.

Stuff is moving--and that's good. When the works back up, then I'll be hollering up a storm in here.

hahaha..oh boy. ok--I'm done and gonna go hide my head for a little....
