Hello everyone, my name is Carol and I'm an American living overseas in New Zealand. I have had previous very *favourable* results doing atkins in the past, but after the birth of my son (now nearly 2) it's been harder and harder to stick to induction at *all* primarily because every time I low carb these days I feel completely sick. I'm following the program to the letter. I'm not doing anything I'm not supposed to do and eating everything that I really should. But I just feel so *ILL*. Has this happened to anyone else??????? Thanks and long distance *huggggggggs* to all.

Re: why oh WHY do I feel so sick?????????
Think you might just be suffering from induction flu, which is the awful feeling you get the first 3 days of ridding your body of carbs and hopefully caffeine. Make sure you are eating enough and drinking enough water. Do you have the 2002 edition of Dr. Atkins diet book? If not make sure to purchase it and read from cover to cover. Hang in there it will get better. Sorry no one got to your post before this, usually things get answered much quicker. Good luck on your journey to a healthy life!

Re: why oh WHY do I feel so sick?????????
As you know, if you have just recently started induction, feeling a little sick is quite common
for a lot of people.
Symptoms should disappear quickly. If they haven't vanished by the 4th week, see a doctor.
Remember that your body is making a metabolic adjustment. My symptom was a froggie in the throat. It did disappear.
Be sure to stay very full.
I envy you living in New Zealand. I spent a few theres too and I loved it.
I miss the lovely garlic sausage. kaupai!!!

Re: why oh WHY do I feel so sick?????????
It all depends really what you mean by sick. It could be you sugar levels dropping a bit low at the time so you feel nauseated and light headed and just plain awful. If this is the case then eat something, in the induction stage you sometimes need to eat often to alleviate this problem till your body gets into the swing. Make yourself an induct friendly pancake or make some cheese chips and nibble on them.
It could also be the induction flu.. it seems to be a lot worse the second and third time round. Symptoms are flu like symptoms .. sick tummy, sore joints, sore skin and being able to feel every hair on your head... not to mention crabby and teary feelings.. this will pass in about 2 to 3 days.
Cutting out caffein makes you feel like death warmed up too... the headache from **** is the side effect from that demon as is body aches and a mild temperature.
If you are really worried then see a doctor you are too preciouse to take chances.. we only get one chance at this life you know!
