I KNOW I'm not supposed to weigh every day. I just can't help it. I gained three pounds over the last two days, and I'm not sure why! I've been doing everything just right. This is why I should not weigh myself every day! I'm sure it's water, or something, but it is still annoying.

Re: Why did I just gain 3 pounds??
It could be sodium or something innocent like that. Your scales could naturally fluctuate or have low batteries if they are digital. Also, when you exercise sometimes your muscles retain fluid temporarily for repairs to the tissue. Who knows? There is such a long list of possibilities that you will probably not figure it out. Just drink plenty and ride it out. When it leaves, maybe it will take some extra with it!Jennifer

Re: Why did I just gain 3 pounds??
Look what weighing everyday is doing to you mentally. This isn't healthy. The scale cannot measure metabolic processess - it is completely useless for measuring your progress on Atkins. Let it go!
Please read all the stickys in this forum. Weight fluctuation is completely normal. Setting your mood by a clunky metal piece of tin isn't.
You can go down entire sizes and see no movement on the scale whatsoever.
Part of being an Atkineer is allowing yourself to heal and give up all kinds of learned dysfunctional behaviors - daily scale watching is one of them.
How you talk to yourself is so important. You can choose to nuture yourself, or choose to sabatoge yourself - the choice is yours, and you can help it, because you are in charge and no-one else.I just can't help it.
Give up victimhood and find empowerment.

Re: Why did I just gain 3 pounds??
Well I am with you...I weigh every day and over the past two days I have gained 2.5lbs.
So why don't we just put the scales up high in the closet and only pull them out once a week?

Re: Why did I just gain 3 pounds??
take it from a reformed scale-a-holic..do not weigh everyday..My scale would go up and down all day long (up to 5 pds)..this drove me crazy!!
Finally, my scale had a small accident..it fell out of the window..and I kindly put it to rest in the trash..
Best thing that could have happened. I now pay attention to how I feel and how my clothes fit..

Re: Why did I just gain 3 pounds??
A few things:
- Are you weighing yourself first thing after you wake up? In my experience it's been the most reflective of my progress. I've had a full night's rest and there's no undigested food or water in my system that's bogging down my weight.
- It's important that you weigh at the same time - for example, my method of weighing in the morning. But whatever time you do weigh at, make sure it's consistent. If you weigh yourself at 8AM, then weigh yourself at 6PM after a full day of food/water intake plus activity, that just isn't accurate. Which brings be to my next point:
- Some people's weight just fluctuates like crazy, but weight fluctuation is normal. I wrote in my journal yesterday how the scale had shown I gained 2.5 pounds. I was reading as 172.5 rather than the 169.5 in the morning and was really bummed. But I weighed this morning, and now? 168. So weight can fluctuate several pounds during the day.
- Sometimes it'll take awhile for progress to even show on the scale, even if you are consistent. Like it's been mentioned, a lot of people lose inches before they lose pounds. Measure yourself once a week and I guarantee if you stick to this, you'll see those numbers change!
Good luck and be strong!

Re: Why did I just gain 3 pounds??
Kittie has given some good advice and information so all I will add is.
Make sure you take your measurements (at least the main ones of chest/breast/waist/hips though some people measure arms, legs, ankles, wrists even head too) so you will be able to tell if you are losing inches.
Remember a 'stall' is at least 4 weeks with no inches or pounds lost.
