  • Guidance needed please.

    Hi guys,

Today is my fourth day and I just want to make sure I’m doing this the right way. I don’t want to exceed the 20 carbs per day allowance. I just need to check that my calculations are correct. I’ve been checking them on Fitday (which has been very helpful for me) but I just want to know that I’m on the right path.

These are the ones I need to confirm:-
    1 boiled egg – 2 carbs
    1 thin slice cheese – 0 carbs

    1 baked chicken leg – 0 carbs

1 tablespoon coleslaw (with mayonnaise) – 1 carb

    1 cup broccoli – 6 carbs

    1 small tomato – approx. 4 carbs

I had a slice of cheese for a snack today and entered it as 0 carbs in my diary but I’m sure I read in the book that it has a few carbs. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Any guidance will be appreciated.

    Cheers

    Re: Guidance needed please.

    Hi Lissa

Many of us here use a website called www.fitday.com to log our foods and calculate our carbs. It is free to set up an 'account' and though a bit complicated to use gets easier after a while! It is set up for USA-type foods, but once you learn the different names (eggplant=aubergine, zucchini=courgette, etc) it isn't too bad.

Most carb counters put one egg as a bit under one carb. Cheese will vary according to the kind you use, but Dr Atkins tells us to count one carb per ounce of the 3-4 ounces a day we are allowed. The coleslaw count will depend on what is in it - some commercial brands have a fair amount of sugar in them, so go by what is on the packet if it is a bought item, or by what you make it with.

    Hope this helps!

BTW - have you taken your measurements too? Many Atkineers lose inches instead of weight from time to time and it is good to have starting numbers for comparison later.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

      Re: Guidance needed please..

Thanks Elizellen - that has helped a lot. I will keep using Fitday to monitor the carb contents, and instead of a 0 for cheese (for now I'm using only cheddar), I'll do as you say and just count each oz as 1 carb. I make my own coleslaw (with mayonaisse but minus carrots - so I guess it's really shredded cabbage!). Yes, I've taken my measurements and I'm keeping a journal so it's all written down.

Much appreciated. BTW, your before and after pics are an inspiration! Thanks for sharing them!

      Cheers, Lissa
