  • The innocence of a child!

Hi everyone, I just had to share this. It’s the end of my first week and I have done really well, sticking to induction with no cheating. Then this afternoon I had the most intense craving for peanuts (I’ve never liked sweets but used to constantly snack on peanuts and raw almonds).

So, I decide to go hunting (on foot) for peanuts with the excuse that I’m going for a walk and since I’ve done so well this week, I can reward myself with 16 peanuts. Lots of chocolate, skittles etc. on the shelves but no peanuts, so the temptation increases and I am salivating for something forbidden! In the end I leave but turn back as I decide I’ll buy a Snickers bar and cut it up into cubes, having one each week (yeah right) .

Anyway, call it divine intervention, or just the angels getting in my way, but just as I’m about to re-enter the shop, excited with the anticipation of having a “small piece” of snickers, the cutest little girl looks up at me smiling and starts to sing “Hello fat lady! Hello fat lady!” She said it about five times and I just looked at her and smiled, mumbled “thank you” to my angels as I turned around and headed for home with my tail between my legs, feeling very ashamed of myself!

I don’t know how I would have reacted a week ago but today, at 7 pounds lighter being called fat doesn’t bother me because I am on my way to my goal!! No more attempts at cheating!!

This ADBB board has been the most motivating factor for me. Every morning before I make my breakfast I log on and find something inspirational to read. Thank you guys!

lol, if that little girl is calling you fat at 199, I wonder what she'd be singing to me!! Maybe she'd just start crying and turn around running to her mom. hahahaha.

That has to be pure divine intervention. Kudos to you for turning around and leaving the candy on the shelf!

Yes, I am glad you didnt eat it, but sometimes that what it takes for us to "whip" back in shape.... That was a great story Lisa. I thought the same as Meena "i wonder what she would have called me?" I'm glad your doing better & CONGRATS on the loss, thats great!

Great story! The little brat! ha, ha, ha

There will be, alas, other snack attacks and a smartalecky kid won't always be there to intervene. It is therefore essential to decide now what you are going to eat when you get another craving. I didn't hesitate to grab another pork chop, a plate of chopped jicama, whatever would appease the moment.

When you reach the appropriate level of OWL, yes, some peanuts will be fine. For now, make yourself a mock danish, or even two if you have to.

We all need to remember that Atkins isn't a program you can pick up and put down on a whim. If you cheat, you knock yourself out of ketosis and thats deliberately doing sabatoge to your Atkins success. Just don't go there. Stick at first, and soon ketosis will curb your cravings naturally.

Thanks for your responses guys. I appreciate the support. Tabekat, thanks for the reality check! You're right... I won't always have someone to rescue me from myself! Ultimately it's up to me. So, I've looked at the recipe for the mock danish, and if/when I have another craving, that will be my option.

              Have a good weekend.

Next time this happens you need to eat something with fat. The fat will cut your craving. The other thing that works is green tea.....

If you just NEED to have peanuts or something sweet then grab a deviled egg and a cup of green tea. 10-15 minutes later you'll forget ALLL about those sweets.

I'm horrified that that girl said that to you! Where was her mum?! How rude!!

Altho I guess it was a good thing as it stopped you from cheating. Please keep at it, you will be thankful in the long run!

Just checked here and saw your responses! Thanks for the tip Burtonator and thanks too Angelstar. LC_Dave you are really funny. I think her Mum must have been hiding Angelstar, because she was nowhere to be seen! I'm okay with it really because, as I said, it was a reality check for me. Good new is, I haven't had any cravings since and have now lost 10lbs! You guys are so supportive. I really appreciate it. Take care.
