  • New to Board

Hi all- I have been reading the posts on this board for several months and I have no idea why I never signed up until now. I did Atkins faithfully for 6 months a few years ago and lost about 45 lbs and I felt wonderful. However, I settled down into a new relationship and got "comfortable". The weight came back on, plus some. I am engaged now- we haven't quite set a date yet but we are thinking possibly this December! That's why I'm here- I started Atkins again on Monday and I have been doing great so far but I am going to need some help along the way. I also have a question- As far as Induction goes- is it out of the question to snack on a few peanuts or pistachio's? I have read the carbohydrate content and net carbs is 3 per 1/2 cup. Just checking to see if this is out and if so, do any of you have any ideas for something to snack on?? Im getting kinda tired of lettuce, celery, and brocolli.

    Thanks!!
    - Mandy

    Re: New to Board

    hi Mandy
I am glad you have de-lurked and joined our ADBB family!

According to the induction rules you are right - nuts and legumes (peanuts) are NOT 'legal' till you reach the relevant level/rung of the second phase of Atkins - ongoing weight loss aka OWL.

Dr Atkins wanted us to stick to foods in induction that are less likely to upset our blood sugar and cause cravings leading to overeating - who can only eat a few pistachios if they have a whole can beside them?!?! I never could before Atkins

when you are further along in your Atkins journey you will be able to regulate your intake much better and will have the incentive of your losses so far to keep you on track.

BTW Dr Atkins told us to consider one ounce of nuts as the equivalent of 5 net carbs when we reintroduce them in OWL - no matter what the actual carb counts are - to avoid us overeating them!!

He does the same for cheese in induction; we are allowed 3-4 ounces of cheeses but must count each ounce as being the same as one carb, even if it says it is a '0-carb' cheese on the label.

For snacks you need to plan something that is high fat to satisfy your body, so many people use their veggies with a full fat dressing or cheam cheese - dont eat veggies on their own as a snack.

I am sure others will chip in with their own favourites but some of mine are:
meat and cheese rolled up together - either slices of cheese or cream cheese spread over the meat slices.
    salmon and cream cheese rollups.
ham and asparagus spears rolled up together.
    boiled eggs
    devilled eggs
mayo with boiled eggs chopped into it
mayo with celery chopped into it
egg/cheese/meat/spinach made into little 'muffins' - here is a simple recipe which you can alter according to whatever you have in the fridge

    Hope this helps

      Re: New to Board

Welcome Mandy - be sure to read all the stickies at the top of this forum and re-read the 2002 DANDR. Stick to induction safe foods only, that means no nuts. There are lots of veggies to try, definately expand your recipe ideas.

This is a good website with induction safe recipes.
