  • Day 4 of induction

I am on my 4th day of induction. I started in April, cheated, posted I was going to be strong and just do it and I didn't. (Speaking of, I am going to have to revise my signature it's old!) Now I am ready and I am starting. I have been feeling really good all week and have been really strong. I am wondering about sugar free candies and the sugar alcohols. I know they count as a sweetner, but I am wondering others input from others that have used this on induction. I don't have the "body" reactiont hat others have from it. I really didn't want to have to use the sugar free candies, but I am a preschool teacher and being the end of the year, all the parents send in goodies and I all week have been saying I will just have a treat and then start again tomorrow and almost did, but saw the candy instead. Saying I will start again tomorrow has killed my so many times in the past. Any suggestions that would help me, would be great. It is not that I am having cravings all the time, it is just seeing the treats is almost too tempting for me. Thanks for your help!

    Week 1 (6/21-6/27)
    1. Drink at least 1 gallon plain water daily
    2. Try at least 3 new recipes (this will be tough-I always prepare things the same-this will encourage me to try things differently and include foods that are different for me)
    3. Try at least 5 new foods on acceptable foods list (this will also be tough being that I only have a set food list of about 10 things I eat)
    4. Begin exercising by walking everyday.
    5. Take a before picture of myself

I would try not to go the sugar alcohol route (sugarfree candies) if at all possible. You say you dont get the 'body reaction' that some people get from them - which means your body is absorbing and processing them.
So if you do decide to 'use' them you ought to count each and every one of those 'magic non counting carbs' as sugar carbs, and not deduct them.
This might help you not overindulge on them as you will easily exceed your daily carb allowance by eating a few of them!

Why not fix yourself some yummy lowcarb induction-legal snacks so you can have one of those instead? also I would find someone who would appreciate all those candies and cookies and give them away before you go home, so you wont have the temptation lying around out of school too! Maybe open them and leave them in the staff room?

I coped my first Christmas on induction by opening the gift and thanking the donor, then rewrapping it and giving it away to one of my 'stick insect' friends or neighbours!!

You have done so well so far - 4 days on induction is great without cheating - see if you can make it a full week first then on to the second week too!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Just stick with Atkins and it will work for you

I learned from experience to stay away from them. They cause me to crave, and its not worth it. I also was not able to "eat just one". I have a problem with ending meals thinking " i have to have something sweet". I have started using my splenda allowance to have a sugar free drink after I eat, and it works to combat that. You can do this.

            Re: Day 4 of induction

I find that I need to be practically militant in my attitude toward Atkins in order to succeed during induction. And making it past all the special occasions has a special satisfaction that helps give me the stamina to say no with each successive temptation out there. The excuses of "I'll start tomorrow", or "I'll just have one piece", or "A little bit won't hurt" seldom turns into the "itty bitty cheat" we intended. Carry a large bottle of cold water and drink from it often. As you get further along in your clean induction, you'll find you'll feel better, have more energy and you'll feel self-satisfaction.

            Best wishes.
