  • On my first week of Atkins...

    My stats:
    27
    Male
    6'0"
    250 down to 241 first week.

    I seem to be having some trouble getting in a enough calories. Maybe calorie intake isn't important? Yesterday I comsumed 1146 calories, if you think I need more can anyone give me suggestions on foods that contain more.

    I've mainly been eating 2 eggs and one piece of sausage for breakfast a piece of chicken wrapped in lettuce with a tomatoe for lunch, and a bacon ranch chicken salad from mcdonalds for dinner.

    Don't worry about calories. Eat until you're no longer hungry. You only need to worry about your carb count and your percentages.

    Does 2 eggs and one piece of sausage fill you up? That doesn't seem like a whole lot but if it fills you up then it's fine. It's recommended that you spread your vegetables out so you might want to turn your eggs into an omelette and add some veggies. Your lunch also seems pretty small. You could add a salad, or even just some mayo to help get your daily fat in. Same with dinner. Just one small salad? Don't be afraid of eating too much if you're still hungry. Make sure you're drinking lots and lots of water.

    Try going to www.fitday.com and typing in everything you eat. It'll give you exact percentages and you can see how you're doing.


    9lbs in a week is great, though. Keep it up.

      OKay today I had 2 servings of eggs and 2 pieces of sausage, according to fit day that is 790 calories. I don't know how accurate that figure is because this was from the cafe in my building and I just approximated the amount of eggs. I have been using fitday and it's a great site and I've also been drinking lots of water. Can you suggest some vitamins I should also be taking?

        Did you have 2 servings of eggs and 2 pieces of sausage because you were hungry or because you felt like you needed to up your calories? Only eat if you're hungry. Also, make sure there's no sugar in that sausage.

        Do you have the book Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution from 2002? That's the book that people go by here. You'll see it referred to as DANDR. It explains (chapter 23) exactly which supplements and vitamins you should be taking.

        Most people start off with a multi-vitamin that doesn't contain iron. It really depends on you. Some people are fine with just the multi-vitamin while others will take 15 different pills. Give the chapter a read and decided what you need.

          I ate it because I felt hungry, I'm not sure if the sausage has any suger it didn't taste like maple or anything... I've eaten it almost every day this week and I'm still in ketosis.

            You should ask them for nutritional information for the sausage. It might not seem like a big deal but if it has sugar in it then that's no good. Even if it doesn't taste like it. You should always be sure about things; never just assume it's okay to eat.

            I had said something about the book but I'm unsure so I have deleted it. That is not the copy of the book that I have but perhaps it's also okay. I will let someone else take that question.

              That chicken salad from McDonald's could be a problem. If you look here: http://www.mcdonalds.com/app_control...on.index1.html you'll see that the salad without the chicken or dressing is 10 gms of carbs and the dressing is 9 gms. The grilled chicken also has carbs. I was eating a lot of those when I started Atkins before I discovered that it was high in carbs.

                Also, is there a reason you eat out so much? If it's an emergency then it's okay and you can find something safe but it's really not recommended that you eat out 3 times a day every day.

                You should check out the recipe forums. I'm sure you'll find some easy stuff that you'll like.
