  • I gots a salad question

When I did Atkins before the salad issue was an easy one because I like just a few of the low carb veggies in Romaine and a bit of spinach with just the tiniest splash of no sugar Italian dressing if anything at all.

I tried a small Caesar salad over the weekend for the first time and found it delish but would have preferred it to be lighter on the dressing. On the diet facts website I found a Caesar salad that listed less than one carb for one ounce. I Googled Caesar salad recipes and of couse there were so many varieties listed who knows. Plus my head will implode and my toenails fly off like missiles if I ate any raw egg or anchovies.

So the question would be, is Caesar salad allowed on Induction?

Depends what's in the dressing. According to Julia Child, the original Cesar dressing was an egg, a few drops of Worchestershire sauce, lemon juice, oil, parmesan cheese, salt and pepper. That amount was able to dress a salad that served 4-6 people. This type of dressing is "legal" on Atkins Induction. When chefs or companies start adding extra stuff to the basic dressing, the "legality" of it becomes questionable because it depends on what the ingredients are.

This link is to a website that has food origins and a recipe for the Cesar Salad the way it was made by Cesar Cardini.

If eating a raw egg is unsettling to you, you can substitute a tablespoon mayonnaise for each egg.

yep there are more carbs in the dressing at McDOnalds then in the salad.

if you loke your old dressing use it and don't worry about what name your salad dressing should be.

OH my God. I did not know that Caesar dressing was so not good. If the dressing has 2g or less of sugar in it, is it really going to hurt?

I noticed your post and wanted to respond....
Worchestershire sauce is made with Mollasses which is sugar...I am not sure that all of them are made this way, but all that I've ever tried or recall reading about has been made with sugar. This then would not make it legal for induction...maybe though you know of another type...

There are some pretty good ceasar salad dressings with no sugar added. I love ceasar salad. Just be careful of the McDonalds or any other "fast food" style restaurant.

              Sugar free Worcestershire sauce:
              http://www.veganessentials.com/catal...ward--sons.htm

It's a vegan product so it also doesn't contain anchovies.

Frankly, I don't mind anchovies so I use them instead of the sauce whenever I make a Cesar dressing. 1 anchovy tossed into a blender with the other ingredients and whirled until it's all finely chopped and well mixed doesn't give the dressing a "fishy" taste or smell. Plus it gives the dressing alittle bit of protein and calcium.
