  • Advice about some foods, please

Hi all! I'm really enjoying reading this forum and I found many useful advices.
I'm on day 3 of Induction and I'm using FitDay to check my carbs.

I would like to know if it's ok to eat carrots, not cooked just raw. same thing about cucumber. I found it's a very nice snack!
And if I should keep eggplants out of induction.
I saw people talking about salami (pepperoni) but there is a small amount of sugar there as well, is that ok or should I pass?
What about hot-dogs? without the bun of course! sometimes can I substitute the bacon with some slices of hot-dog?

Yesterday I didn't reach the 20 gr of carbs, I was way below! is that ok?
    I had this :

    breakfast:
2 thin slices of cheese (like fontina) with 2 slices of bacon, melt it in the microwave

    lunch:
3 eggs, scrambled with bacon bites

    dinner:
2 hamburgers (just meat)fried with half onion, 3 tablespoon olive oil, 1 mozzarella

    Thank you so much!

I think you need to recheck your allowed foods list, Roshen to see which vegetables are allowed.
    But a quick answer is
    carrots - NO
    cucumber - YES
    eggplant - YES

Look for salami with no sugar - or with sugar at the very end of a long list of ingredients.
Hot-dogs will also depend on the ingredients listed, I think people have posted that some 'kosher' hotdogs are fine.
Most german-type sausages are fine too - but check the ingredients list (I wonder if you are seeing a pattern here[joke])

You didnt get anywhere near 20 net grams of carbs because you ate very little of the 3 cups we are supposed to eat!!
So start to think of how you will add them.

Maybe some mushrooms with the cheese and bacon, add some spinach to the scambled eggs or have a salad of dark leafy greens and sweet red peppers and cucumbers as a side dish, use a large lettuce leaf to wrap round your hamburgers etc.

We are supposed not to eat veggies on their own, so cucumbers dipped in a fullfat dressing would be fine too, or celery spread with pate or cream cheese.
You should be getting more than half of your carbs from vegetables from the list!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Roshen, great start and great questions. Have you a copy of our BOOK, Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002? Its an important read and one that you need to start on page one, underline the good stuff, dog ear the pages you want to go back to read again and really abuse the heck out of.
Yep and gotta eat those veggies. If your not a veggie eater, find something that you really like. and try to mix up the colors cause the more colorful the veggies, the more vitmins and nutrients your getting.

        Thank you
I'm not a veggies eater, so true, but today I made an effort so I'm trying to get my "quota" of salad!
I have the book but I've read it just once, and then started straight away. I'll read it again!
I'm reading carefully the labels of every food and I'm doing my best. I really want to change my life!!
Sure that today the headache is annoying

And today I had more veggies then yesterday, so I must be learning something

I'm so glad there is this board! Thank you all!!

Re: Advice about some foods, please

            Hi Roshen,

The veggie part is 1 cup of veggies on the approved list and 2 cups of salad veggies. What I do is put the salad under what I am eating rather than as a side salad. When it is on the side, it is like being forced to eat veggies, but when it is under, it becomes part of the main dish. Try this and be sure to add some good dressing. I mix mayo with low carb ketchup for a great russian dressing. I believe there is a post on this site that has an excellent wallet size sheet that lists the do's & dont's. Also, the Atkins website has a list of the permitted veggies.

Keep it up. It is worth the effort. You are going to feel the difference very soon.

Roshen, try out veggies on the list of acceptable foods that you've never tried before. You may find that you really like some of them. A lot of veggies will start tasting really sweet to you the further you get away from having actual sugar. I also love the "crunch factor" of some of them too--cucumbers, jicama, yellow/red/orange bell peppers. You can dip them in ranch or cream cheese. Yummy. Remember--"salad" doesn't have to be lettuce....and it really should be some of those other veggies as lettuce doesn't have that much nutritional value. I love raw spinach salads instead of regular lettuce, or try some of the spring mix salads. Try vegetables raw and cooked--you may like some cooked, some raw. You just want to make sure that you get them in...you need the vitamins and fiber!
