  • a little discouraged....

    Hi

Well, I'm on day 12 on induction and I have lost 3 pounds. I am happy that I have lost weight, I really am, but I was hoping for more in the first 2 weeks... I am not quiting. I will keep going. It is just a little disouraging comared to what I thought I may loosed in induction.

I am going on a vacation until JUne 26 to the Keys. I will keep it up.

Is this common?? Maybe I need to post my menus....

Any advice???? I could use some encouragement.

You're not done with Induction yet

Yes, it is common and yes, posting what you've been eating might help and bring out a few experts here on the board that can spot what you may be needing or stop eating.

There's many factors of our body's getting use to this way of eating, we're all different. Drinking plain water, exercise, taking meds, metabolism, lack of sleep, salty foods...you name it.

Best wishes and know that 3 pounds IS a good thing

Weight loss is an highly individual thing.

Posting your menues is a good idea. Also doing your exercise will help too.

But don't be discouraged, a former Administrator here, Betty, lost absolutely 0 pounds and inches during her Induction. She moved to OWL, then Pre-Maintenance and achieved her goal in 6 months.

Every little pound and inch counts. So don't be discouraged.

        THanks Lisa and Megs!

OK, that sounds good to me. Here's a sample menu:

AM: Omelet with egg beathers and egg white. ham cheese 1\4 of a tomato and a hanful of mushrooms and onions. or the Adkins shake (1 grm carbs)

LUNCH: ceasar salad or chefs salad. dressing, ceasar or Soutwest ranch (ceasar has 1 grm carbs per 2 tbs and ranch has 2 carbs per 2 tbs.) sometimes I add guacamole dip to that about 2 to 3 tbs. and baked chicken.

Dinner: All beef Nathans HOt dogs with sour krout and mustard and mayo as a dip. (1 carb each for the hot dogs and 1 carb for sour krout for each oz) or taco salad made with hamburger meat and onions and mushrooms and 1-2 cups salad and 1\2 tomatoes and guacomole dip.

Snack: cucumber slices with Ranch Southwest dip.
Snack: cheese chunks about 2-3 oz during the day.
I have not been consistant on the exercise, I was sick for a week and I did take Nyquil and 2Big already set me straight on meds. I think the Nyquil may have sabataged my first week and lack of exercise. Oh, yea....I did have some sugar free candy 1st week. I stopped that.

        Thats about it.

          Re: a little discouraged....

I did induction for 14 days and lost 1/2 pounds and then took the cheeses and the coffee out and lost 3 pounds in 9 days. Considering that I am really close to my personal goal that was amazing.
Then I got married and did not follow Atkins for that weekend...
Now I am back, started with the Induction BootCamp and in 36 days I lost 5 pounds. It is amazing, I have like 9 more pounds to go but I am going to go thru the whole Atkins OWL, premaintance and Maintenance because that Is the only way to make sure the pounds wont come back, so dont get discouraged!

            Thank you Bella!

I needed to hear that. That encourages me. I am not drinking coffee, but sometimes I need caffeine when i am traveling so i don't fall asleep at the wheel. THat must be why I crave sugar.

I'll keep it up and post next week on June 27th when I get back from the Keys.

            Thanks again!!!!

              Re: a little discouraged....

I see some places that you are not really following induction okay i am going to point them out. Also I reccomend that you re-read the induction stickies as well as read the DANDR 2002 edition that is the one we follow here.

Things like ham and hot dogs are processed foods especially hotdogs they have corn syrup in them and quite a few carbs- we are trying to eat as much natural meats as possible. Sour cream is not allowed until you move to ongoing weight loss, quacamole is made with sour cream. The taco sesoning as an abundant amont of carbs when I make the kids taco salad I make myself some ground beef with chilli powder. I am not sure about the eagbeaters honestly we are allowed to have eggs.

Remeber theese simple rules in induction All meat is allowed- Chicken, beef, pork, lamb.
2cups lettuce and one cup induction legal veggies per day NO MORE
              (it is important to measure)
              or 3 cups lettuce

No more than 4 oz cheese daily and make sure it is legal cheese not all cheese is allowed during induction.

You are only allowed 2tblsps of dressing daily in induction if you like you Vinegar and oil it has very little carbs

2 big is right sugar free candies I consider those personally evil and they make nyquil in caspsules.

Water is extremly important you should drink 64oz plus eight for every 25 pounds you have to lose for you that is 72oz and more when you exercise or eat salty foods.

Most people here would tell you that those Atkins shakes and bars are not allowed in induction and we do not reccommend them at anytime.

I don't know what is in the southwest ranch dressing but you should definantly check in it for things that are not legal.

I am sorry to have sounded so harsh I just wanted you to understand that you have not been doing Atkins Induction, and hopefully this will help your weight loss feel free to PM me I just restarted induction yesterday due to falling off the wagon. So we are here for you

P.S. there are alot of stickies on the Atkins stages and I was able to follow induction until my book came and you can pick up the book on e-bay for pennies.

There is plenty of other veggies on that list than lettuce. If you eat lettuce every day you will be bored. Trust me

                  Re: a little discouraged....

The bars and shakes have been known to slow down or stop weight loss. So if you can, ditch them for a couple of weeks. Avocados are a good fruit, but they can give some people problems (which is why they are on the Special Category Food list). Drop it for a week or two and see what happens. You can always try to reintroduce it later.

And, the processed meats tend to be high in sodium and that can cause water retention in some folks.

Also you might want to see if your measurements have changed. The scale doesn't tell you if you lost fat or retained water. The measuring tape will tell you if you've lost. And afterall, no one will know how much you weigh unless you walk around with a sign that says "Hi. Today I weigh ______ pounds." But you and they will notice how much smaller you are.

                    Austlyn,

Thank you!!! NO, I DO really appreciate your advice and looking at my menu and the critique. I am going to take your advice and go more "hard core" next week.

I have made some tuna salad and egg salad with 0carbs. I will take your advice and eat meats only with low carb veggies. I re-read the induction. So, i am having some intence sugar cravings. Anyway, I am drinking my water and I will be trying to add more exercise too.

You have been a great help! Thanks again.

                      Thanks Megs!

I am going to take your advice...no shakes for guacomole for a while. I'm starting to get the hang of this, and your help is wonderful!
I have to see what combinations work for my body and it's a little tricky at first..

I hope to have better news next week!

                      THanks a million!

I think Autlyn made a 2BIG typo it should say 2 cups fo salad veggies and 1 cup other veggies or 3 cups of salad vegies

if your egg salad has eggs in it it isn't carb free. Are you using one of the free online carbcounting food journaling sites like www.fitday.com to log your foods? remeber we have to count our carbs from all sources not just labels on processed foods and the veggies. eggs, dressings spices condiments all have carbs and need counting.

We have a former admin who lost nothing for all induction and stuck with it and became a goalie 11 months later.
