  • Is this OK for induction folks?

So I started to write down what I was eating all day and here is what I have came up with:
    Monday
    Breakfast:
2 Atkins breakfast bars (cin and st) 4 g carbs (high in sat fat)

    Lunch
    El Pollo Loco:
    creamy cilantro dressing 1 g c arb
    salad 7-8 g carb
    2 pieces of chicken 2 g carb
1 order of pinto beans 24g carb....... (I only noticed this after giong to their website after I arleady ate it thinking beans would be OK)

    Snack:
1 atkins peanut butter/chocolate bar 2g carbs (high in saturated fat)
3 slices of cheese 3g carbs (high in saturated fat)

    Dinner:
Tuna Salad (1 pacakge tuna, a bit of Moya, cucumber and tomato tho not too much) (I dont know how many carbs that is)
1 3g carb whole wheat tortilla strip

Seems like 28g carbs for the day NOT counting the stupid pinto beans which sky rocketed it, fair to say Monday will NOT be counted as a induction day for me.

Are these very low carb whole wheat small tortillas ok?? I remember a few years ago NO WHEAT NO BREAD AT ALL was allowed, but now when I go to atkins website right there it says you can have their low carb/low glycemic index bread (which I bought) in phase 1!! Is this true? I'm afraid to do this since it might ruin my diet and I would hate to ruin my diet with some bad tasting bread. What are your thoughts?

    Now for the real diet:

    tues:
2 atkins strawberry bfast bar 4g carb
1 chicken breast w/ spicy salsa 2g carb
1 diet coke 0g carb (realized can't have it so i stopped)
1 atkins pbchoc bar 1g carb
    In-n-out doubledouble
    w/o bun, sauce, onion
so i'm going to geuess 5g carb
1 atkins penut butter bar 2g carbs
    1 big steak 3g carb

    Wed:
    1 atkins straweberry bar/1 atkins ceral: 3g
1 double double fully plain 5g (going to guess 5g since a fully loaded one on their website has 11g)
1 plate of chicken w/ some onion 4g
    2 atkins pb/choco bar 4g
    2 turkey sausages w/ cheese 5g
1 sugar free popsicle bar 1g? (says no carbs)

    Thursday (Today):
1 atkins strawberry breakfast bar 1g
going to have a el pollo loco creamy
    cilantro salad 8g
going to have 2 el polo loco chicken 2g
    fresh veggiesx2 12g

    snack (going to have):
atkins penut butter choco bar 2g
    3 slices cheese 3g
    1 sugar free popsicle 1g

Soooooo my diet such as tuesday looks soooo fatty! I mean I look at these penut butter bars and these breakfast bars and they are LOADED with saturated fats! I'm worried I'm eating too much fat, what do you guys think? Any suggestions?

    NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!

You need to buy the book and READ IT.
    No beans!
And definitely no Atkins bars type stuff, no cereal. You're eating absolutely loads of them and you shouldn't be eating any at all.

Please, the best advice I can give is to read the book either for the first time or re-read it.

Lots of people think they're doing Atkins when in fact they're not.
You won't lose any weight eating all those bars.

Have a read through the various posts and forums and see the great advice that's out there.

But please, read the book, ditch the bars and let's get you started.

Dang what a drag, it pisses me off that on the Atkins website it says that the bars and cereal and fake bread that they sell on their website shows that it's ok to eat for phase 1!! What the heck is up with that? I spent so much money buying their 'phase 1' stuff and I can't even use it!!

if your metabolism can handle it you can use it later in other phases.

invest $7 in yourself and buy a copy of the 2002 DR ATKINS NEW DIET REVOLUTION book. it will be the best investment you ever make.

It is confusing when the book says "Eat nothing that is not on the allowed list" and you see the Atkins company telling you that bars with wheat, soy, fruit, nuts etc ARE allowed.

But the best thing to do is start to read labels and make sure for yourself that all the ingredients are allowed for the stage of Atkins you are at.

As 2big said - you can save the bars for when you have reached the level/rung of the main weightloss stage of Atkins (OWL) that all the ingredients are allowed in and see if your body can handle them.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I'm afraid the Atkins sites now just a publicity venue for the commercial arm, and has no real relation to the real diet. Buy the book, read the lists and start afresh.

Proteins, lots of vegetables, 8 glasses of water are the basics for Induction.

            Read the book again!

Re: Is this OK for induction folks?

I am not an expert, BUT I am in extended induction. I am very pleased with my weight loss. Here is my advice, I do drink soda, but I buy diet rite ( no cals, no caffine, no aspertame...made with splenda) also if you can find it around you, a brand called waist watchers (same...no caffine, no cals, no carbs, made with splenda). I also buy teh atkins bars. In the 1992 book and in his recipe books if you read them, they state that there are many low carb snacks and that if you absolutely can't stay away anything that has atkins name on it he endorses. BUT I only allow myself 1/2 a bar a day if I am craving. Make sure they say on the box that it is allowable for phase I induction. I have been allowing myself these, and have been having steady weight loss. I do suggest to tone down the atkins bars some and only use as I said on those tough days. Good luck to you.

Only 30 pounds left to go yipppeeee!! (I know I need to change the ticker)

Hey Chubzilla...Yes, definitely buy the book if you don't have it already. After Dr. Atkins died the website has started promoting all of those products more and more...

I know that some of their bars say that they are acceptable for induction but I'd be careful with them. I did have a couple during induction as Sadie did and still lost 12 pounds but I'd be very careful and definitely not eat 4 in one day.

Just to reiterate - check the list of ingredients - DO NOT go by what the manufacturer suggests.
I dont think ANY of the Atkins bars contain only ingredients on the allowed list of induction foods - as far as I know they ALL contain either nuts, fruit, soya or wheat products etc. Therefore you need to be on the relevant OWL level/rung that covers all the ingredients before they are 'legal' to include in your WOE if you want to do it 'by the book'
I went to the Atkins company site to find ingredients of their bars and found this info
                  AtkinsĀ® Advantageā„¢ Granola Bars

Contains: soy, milk and peanuts.
The 'Morning Bars' do not seem to have ingredients listed there but from a diffferent site
Atkins Morning Starts Breakfast Bars (Apple Crisp)
Ingredients; Soy nuggets (soy protein isolate, tapioca starch, salt), cocoa butter, protein blend (calcium caseinate, hydrolyzed collagen), polydextrose (fiber), glycerin, dry roasted soya beans, roasted almonds, sunflower oil, dried apple pieces, natural and artificial flavour, cellulose, maltitol, dicalcium phosphate, soy lecithin, spice, sucralose (splenda brand non-nutrative sweetener), malic acid
These highlighted ingredients are NOT induction-legal by any stretch of the imagination!!

Re: Is this OK for induction folks?

as to that quote about Dr Atkins standing behind his products back when those books were written the current bars and foods DID NOT EXIST everything was reformulated and/or developed in 2003.

In the 2002 book he clearly adds 2 things to that staement first they are for emergency use only and then he says you have to follow the rules of induction and those rules state very clearly rule 5 eat NOTHING not on the acceptable foods lists!!!

Personally..I believe in the concept of breaking the car craving.Im an emotional eater and yesterday I was tripping out..I front of me was somepopeyes chicken with theskin and i kept wanting to pop some skin in my mouth but i resisted the urge.
Breaking the carb craving was key to my first weight loss on Atkins and what helped me keep the weight off after I had reached my goal weight.

I think by eating all those bars..you are just exchanging one craving for another and if you really wantto lose...its imperative to start a clean induction..its so worth it..Ive lost 7bs and I can see my face is already thinner in 4 days.
                      You Can do it!
