  • Temporarily off of Atkins...

Been pretty sick this week (not due to Atkins)...Very sensitive stomach...Been in and out of bed since this weekend. Off Atkins right now due to stomach sensitivity and a limited appetite....can't tolerate all the meat and fats right now. Been eating saltine crackers, applesauce chicken noodle soup and seven-up for the last few days (courtesy of chef Hubby).
Still maintaining 1st weeks induction loss though...this is probably due to the low calories since I've been eating carbs and am currently out of ketosis. I'm o.k. with this right now since I don't feel so well. Will be right back on track soon and picking up where I left off.

    Get well, soon.

BTW, that myth about eating "carby foods" when you're ill is based on something doctors used to call the "BRAT" diet. BRAT stood for Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast/Tea. And it was used to counteract diarrhea! Doctors don't use it anymore because studies show it's ineffective. For some reason during the 20th century, it became ingrained to use that diet or a variation of it whenever anyone is ill.

Before that, ill people were fed high protein and high fat foods during illness like eggs and meat broths (made by simmering chunks of meat and/or bones in water).

Yeah, I know that it can't "cure' anything, but I must fall in that brainwashed category. I tried to stay on Atkins the first couple of days and ate some leftover chicken breast, etc.. but couldn't keep it down (or in for that matter...sorry..TMI). Then hubby started bringing me soup...I did feel better, but that could also be that the illness ran part of its course and it had been a few days later...None-the-less, I just stuck to those few foods to avoid any problems..
Feeling better now though and if it continues, I am considering getting back in the swing of things tomorrow.
