  • cheese!

    Hi!

I am a little confused about the daily limit for cheese during induction. I read the book but then I have read different advice on some web sites. How much cheese and of what type are we allowed?

    Thanks in advance

    Re: cheese!

We are allowed a maximum of 4 oz a day during Induction. We follow the 2002 edition of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR 2002 for short). During induction this includes cream cheese and hard cheeses like cheddar, etc. No cottage cheese till you get to the dairy rung. Also, cheese can stall or slow down weight loss in some people (but not everyone) so you might want to keep an eye on it and see how it goes.

all these rules on induction are starting to confuse me... i thought since cheese has hardly no carbs u can have a good amount and as for eggs, they just told me 3 eggs a day, then what the heck are we suppost to eat meat all day and salad. i guess i dont know this diet very well, i thought you need to stay under 20 grams a day and are able to eat meats, hard cheeses, eggs and 2 cups of salad a day, can anyone coach me and give me an example of a day of eating correctly????

        Cheese
You can consume three to four ounces daily of the following full-fat, firm, soft and semi-soft aged cheeses*, including:

        cheddar
        cow, sheep and goat cheese
        cream cheese
        Gouda
        mozzarella
        Roquefort and other blue cheeses
        Swiss
*All cheeses have some carbohydrate content. The quantity you eat should be governed by that knowledge. The rule of thumb is to count 1 ounce of cheese as equivalent to 1 gram of carbohydrate. Note that cottage cheese, farmer's cheese and other fresh cheeses are not permitted during Induction. No "diet" cheese, cheese spreads or whey cheeses are permitted. Individuals with known yeast symptoms, dairy allergy or cheese intolerance must avoid cheese. Imitation cheese products are not allowed, except for soy or rice cheese but check the carbohydrate content.
Don't go by what "they" say. In my experience, alot of people do "Atkins" according to what their neighbor's daughter's co-worker's boyfriend's cousin's roommate's dog groomer's lawyer's secretary says.

Do yourself and your health a favor by reading the book and getting the information you need to do this diet correctly first hand.

Ditto what Not2late said! A lot of folks make up their own rules as they go along, it would really help you to read and own a copy of the book, you'll find you refer to it quite often!

If you weigh 4oz of cheese, you'll actually see that that is a HUGE amount

Do you have a copy of the book?
If not, u need to get it NOW and read it.
You won't actually be really doing Atkins if you don't get this book and chances are that you won't stick to this way of eating.
Believe me, this is the best advice you can get, get the book and if you have it already, read or re-read it.

                Re: cheese!

Where does it say in the book to limit the number of eggs? I don't think it does! Also, you left out a whole cup of veggies from the other vegetable list that you should eat unless you have 3 cups from the salad veggie list. PLUS don't miss out on the wonderful additional items you can have, such as olives, avocado, cream, lemon, herbs & spices.

There are lots of induction menus and recipes among these threads - and links to other sites that post them.

Also, make sure you have the 2002 edition Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, and not an older book.
