  • Leg Cramps

doing Atkins I still got leg cramps during the 4th month clean w/o cheats.

Never took potassium but heard that too much cause health problems.

Heard I can take epsom salt baths.

Heard yet again that I can take magnesium.

Even heard that I can drink more water, which don't work for me.

I mean these cramps only happen in my calves at night in the bed, when I move a certain way I literally scream. I'm afraid to go to sleep and stretch out because it may happen again. The pain was so severe last night that I can still feel the pain.

GNC has a combination calcium/magnesium/potassium supplement called Calcimate Plus 800 which cured my leg cramps. No ill effects for me. Give them a try!

I have to take the same cal/mag/pot supplement to get rid of those night cramps also.

I've read plenty that its the calcium/magnesium not so much the potassium that is the culprit on the leg cramps. You need to supplement anyway, so look for a calcium with magnesium. If you like avacado, eat that for the potassium. There's more potassium in avacado than there is in banana! Plus, make sure you are plenty hydrated, that really helps too.

Ditto for me! You are afraid to move for fear they will start back when it starts to twinge.

Mine I think is potassium. I took a potassium pill yesterday morning and one last night before bed and no cramps last night. I've read that the supplements are very small increments so it should be safe unless you took a lot of pills.

But, it is various things like stated above. You can be safe if you take a combo pill like was suggested.

leg cramps that make you scream???

personally, I never experienced anything like this on Atkins.

and I run everyday, so I use my legs alot.

                  Page 148 in the book:

                  Leg Cramps

If you have leg cramps, it probably means you are losing too many electrolytes, which are full of minerals. Starting any weight loss program has a diuretic effect, which is one of the reasons it is to important to stay hydrated. Supplement with potassium, magnesium and calcium in addition to your multivitamin and the cramps should disappear.

                      Re: Leg Cramps

Wow...I'm glad I looked this up....I had a WICKED leg cramp in my right calf last night after I started relaxing and I guess started dozing off on the couch. My daughter thought it was a little funny that I jerked up screaming because it hurt so bad. I couldnt stretch it out, walk it off, rub it out.....I just tried to slow my breathing and relax...it twitched and jumped and would go away and then BAM cramped right back up again......I can feel it twitching and jumping even now....I'm afraid that it's going to cramp up this morning while I'm at work....I'm drinking water right now but I was thinking perhaps since I am at work and having these cramps that I should get a gatorade out of the soda machine and have a little bit.....or would that be WAY wrong? (only thinking of that because I cant get out of the office to buy any c/m/p pills......)

Seshena...water,WATER WATER for the cramps. That should do the trick until you can start getting some minerals in your body.
