  • Restarting Induction

After finally reading the "Atkins for Life" book, I think I need to restart my induction period. I have lost 2 pounds in the first week, but I have had way to many carbs (according to the book at least).

I think I will be on induction for a long time!

    Re: Restarting Induction

Well done for reading up on things, but here we follow the 'Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution' (DANDR) published 2002 rather than the 'Atkins for Life' (A4L) which if I remember correctly (havent read it for a long time) is more aimed at people on maintenance phase of Atkins.

If you can get hold of and read DANDR 2002 it will explain things much better than the short overview given in A4L. In the meantime go to our FAQ forum and read (maybe save and print out) the threads called 'Rules of Induction' http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6782
and 'What foods can I eat on Induction' http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6781
From what I recall of the A4L instructions on induction eating the FAQ posts having been copied from DANDR are better guidance.

You dont necessarily have to restart induciton if you have been a week or so on it, but just continue with your amended eating plan for the 14 days then decide whether you are going to continue on induction eating or do what Dr Atkins suggested and move on to OWL.

In DANDR he suggested that those with many pounds to lose (over 50) might benefit from long induction, but those with less to lose would be better off starting to add carbs and food groups to allow them to remain at their goal weight once reached.

OWL (ongoing weight loss) is the MAIN weightloss phase of Atkins and you do need to allow yourself the luxury of being able to spend time experimenting and finding out what foods affect you (if any) and discovering your CCLL.

In any event he said we should lose our last 5-10 pounds on the third stage of Atkins, so with a total of 25 to lose you need to make the move to OWL in the near future rather than restrict yourself to induction-level carbs and choices for a long time.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Just do a clean induction then switch to OWL and continue on your Atkins journey. All the stages are important and teach long term life skills.
