  • Losing Too Fast

    Hi Gang,

I restarted Atkins this Monday 7/10/06 after reading the book. I am taking supplements and drinking water, and exercising but I am concerned that I am losing too fast. I have lost 11 pounds in the past 4 days. Should I be concerned?

Nope. Don't be concerned, go with it! It will slow down one day, then you will be wishing for the fast loss again LOL.
Those with more to lose will see bigger numbers drop off faster, is all.
    Keep up the good work!!

If you feel okasy then don't worry about your initial whoosh cause your rate of loss will slow down dramatically now compared to that.

      Happy low carbing.

If I'm correct in my assumption that you have been completely off the diet for awhile, and have quite a lot of weight to lose, then your 11 pounds lost during the 1st 4 days of proper induction are from shedding water and salt, save 1-2 pounds of fat. It is so good you have read the book now, and decided to give the diet another chance!

I read that your knees bothered you before on induction. My tip would be to stay as hydrated as possible (I've seen 64 oz/day + 8 more for each 25 pounds overweight recommended), even if you need to add electrolytes to slow down the water loss (preferably balanced mineral salts and not just plain salt), because fluid is necessary in the cushions between the joints to keep them moving freely.
Too much water loss can also result in other "induction flu" symptoms such as dizziness & weakness.

Don't worry, just enjoy it. Unfortunately the fast weight loss won't last. Its a byproduct of induction, and being new to ketosis - soon the weight loss as evident by scale, will slow down to a crawl - but don't despair, you can still lose complete sizes on Atkins and show no scale movement at all.

Thank you guys soooooo much.... and Bonnie, the joint pain has subsided. The first time, I was just doing the program blindly, not eating veggies, excersing or taking supplements. But I am ready now

I'm so glad the pain has subsided, LMA. When I started losing weight, in no time all sorts of miseries started leaving me. Soles of my feet when I get up, depression, aches, fatigue, trouble sleeping, and lately even my lower back pain are things of the past.

I can't wait to feel that good again and to get my face back. It's covered in fat. But hopefully not for long.
