  • Some questions from a newbie

Hi everyone I just have a couple of questions....

I'm on 3rd week of induction. First week went GREAT, I lost 10 lbs. Then second week came, I lost 2 lbs. The problem I'm having is that I'm at the point where I'm having to FORCE myself to eat anything. There are even times when the thought of food makes me nauseated. Over the past few days I have barely eaten enough to get by. And I'm gaining weight now! Could it be because I'm not eating enough? Is that possible? I'll give you an example...this is what I ate yesterday & I had to force myself with every bite:

    Morning:
    3 egg omelette with chedder
    3 strips of bacon
Decaf coffee with half & half & Splenda (had two cups used 4 packets of Splenda)

    Lunch
A piece of ham & two pieces of Swiss Cheese
One stalk of celery with cream cheese (could NOT eat anymore than this)

    Dinner
    3 eggs
    4 strips of bacon

    Dessert
One cup of SF Jello topped with Whipped cream

During the day I managed to drink 10 oz of water & 3 caffeine free Diet Cokes.

SO what do you think? Am I eating too much sweetener? Not enough veggies? Not enough fat?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You need to get your 2-3 cups of veggies in every day. And watch the cheese so you don't go over 3-4 ounces a day, it looks like you're getting a lot more than that. Some people have a problem with cheese and sweetener slowing down their losses so you might try cutting those out, or at least cutting back, and see what happens.

I'd suggest cutting out the Diet Cokes and you have to drink your water! You need at least 8-10 glasses of water every day.

Just a few changes and you'll start losing again.

I would watch your splenda intake, if one packet is one serving, you had 4 with coffee and more art. sweetner in the jello and cokes. I don't find that it stalls me, but some say that it does. Just for health reasons I am trying to cut my intake down. There are times, I have over indulged on crystal light and its not legal. My opinion is that I'd rather have that, than indulge my sweet tooth with sugar, but I know its not correct and I am facing it and fixing it. Being aware is the first step.

Eggs kill my appetite every time. I like 'em... especially for a quick snack, because they're SO satiating. Have you considered switching them out and changing up your menu a little?

Sometimes just eating something new is nice. Who wants to eat the same old, same old all the time?

I would say that the lack of veggies and water are probably the major contributors to any stalling or gaining right now. Up both of those and you should see better results.

Your menu looks kind of boring too. There's sodium and nitrates in ham and bacon. I don't know if this is a typical menu or if it is just for the one day, but you might want to limit these kinds of meats a bit and substitute some tuna or chicken (or a nice juicy steak) instead.

Congratulations on your 12 lb loss though. Good job.

I agree with what the others have said - more water and veggies and drop the diet drinks.

And spread your 3 cups of veggies across the day so you have some with each meal - maybe a 2 egg omelette with mushrooms or peppers and 2 bacon strips, so you are not overeating your 'legal' foods.

I noticed you listed half & half which is half milk and therefore not on the allowed list. Try using cream instead.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

OMG! I didn't even think about the half & half being "HALF MILK" So I should use heavy cream in my coffee instead?

Yes, I do need to spice up my menu. And no, thats not a typical day. I usually eat eggs in the morning, tuna and mayo for lunch & steak or chicken for dinner. Not a lot of variety! But I'll get more creative when I go grocery shopping tomorrow.

                Again, thanks so much for all the advice. You are all so wonderful {hugs}

Re: Some questions from a newbie

first of all read your DR ATKINS NEW DIET REVOLUTION 2002 edition and learn what Atkins is about. it is about eating only enough food to satisfy our hunger and stopping. if you are not hungry you should not be forcing yourself to eat that much food.

When we are not hungry the 6 hr rule kicks in and we have to eat some protein some fat and some of our carbs ( meaning veggies) as a small snack every time 6 hrs has passed since the last time we ate. so fix a small snack meal and see what happens, not 3 eggs omlette and 3 pieces of bacon. Your body will burn your body fat for fuel and will tell you when you need to eat more food. if 6 hours pass from that snack have another snack eventually your hunger will return and you will then eat a regular sized meal and stop when your hunger is satisfied.

                  Happy low carbing.
