  • *Newbie with intro and question*

    Hi all,

It's been great reading the wealth of information on the boards, thanks!

    Here are my stats:

    Female, 32 yo
    150cm (4ft 11inch i think)
    SW b4 Atkins 141lbs
    CW 136 lbs
    GW 100 lbs

This is Induction day #3 and thus far the scales have tipped 5 lbs in my favour! whoohoo!

Hoping you all could answer a couple of questions.

Firstly, where can I buy the book? I found some on ebay but I want to make sure i get the right edition, is it edition 3 of the 2002 copy?

Any advice is really welcomed right now, yesterday I had some horror cravings, especially after i scooped up some Breyers Tin Roof Sundae Icecream for hubby (he insists he's not buying the stuff anymore.. lol).

    Didn't give in, thank God.

Secondly, what about eating Hebrew National franks? They don't contain any sugar like most franks on the market, but is it a bad idea during induction you think?

Been drinking about a gallon of water a day, should i drink more?

I'm a bit confused, the Atkins site says to consume about 12 - 13 carbs of vegies a day but from reading on the boards here, it's only 3 cups a day, or 2 cups salad vegies and 1 cup from the 'other' list, not too sure which is correct but I've been eating 3 cups a day.

Here's what i ate on day #1 of Induction,

First thing in the am: 1 x small glass of water with 1 x tsp of psyllium husks (sugar free).

Breaky: 2 x egg ommelette with some parsley leaves, 2 x thin slices of turkey breast (just trying to finish it off, won't be buying too much more processed foods while on induction).

Lunch: 2 x cups of lettuce, 2 x HebNat Franks (1 netcarb each), some chicken breast grilled in olive oil and a tiny amount of spices (paprika and ground cummin). 1 x piece of swiss cheese

later: 1 x cuppa coffee, with 1 x splenda and 2 x tbsp of heavy cream

Dinner: 1 x egg, scrambled in olive oil, some tuna and mayo and 1/2 cup of cucumbers.

    I was absolutely stuffed.

Thanks for reading, sorry to make it long, hope to hear from everyone!

It's absolutely the 2002 edition. You should be able to find it in Barnes and Noble, Borders, or on AMazon and ebay. There are links right on this forum to buy it as well!

I would ignore the Atkins website, the standards there vary greatly from the 2002 edition of the book since the Dr. died.

As far as the franks go, checking the ingredients is an awesome habit to get into. processed meats aren't fantastic because of the nitrites and so on, but you could eat worse things.

The veggie standard is 2 to 3 cups of the induction acceptable veggies and 1 cup of the additonal induction veggies if you eat 2 cups of the first list. Your tota carbs per day should be no more than 20g. If you check out the faq's and stickies here on the forum, they should give you a wealth of info until you can pick up the book.

Congrats on your success so far!

Do you have any goodwill stores near you? I just found the hard back edition for only $1.25. WAY cheaper than any ebay/amazon purchase! I would suggest hitting some used bookstores or something like the goodwill. You may get lucky like me.
I know I can do it!

        sw 220
        cw 209.0
        gw 150

My before atkins pic at 230lbs ugh (will add new pick when I hit my first mini goal...yeehaw!)

Thanks for that, you can't beat 1.25 for sure. I did find one for about $6.00 just now on ebay, it includes shipping, not too shabby i suppose.
