  • I'm on Day 2 of Induction!!

You've probably noticed me around these boards in the past, as i've 'attempted' atkins on two seperate occasions in the past to no avail.

However, i decided that i HAD to give it one last shot as i go on holiday on 24th August and would love to loose 1-2 stone in that time (4 weeks)!!

I realise its a lot of weight to loose in that short period of time, however i also realise that if i stay on induction throughout those 4 weeks it IS achievable.

I started induction yesterday and managed to get through the whole day by eating once and once only - it was around lunchtime and i ate half a bucket of chicken wings.

I didn't feel hungry at all yesterday, and was surprised i made it through the day without reaching out for some sweets!

I'm now almost through day 2, and again all i have eaten is half a chicken and 2 slices of cheese.

I really really really want to make it work this time around, as i would love to loose some weight before my holiday - as i know that if i don't - then psycologically i will not enjoy it as much as i will if i loose some weight.

A couple of weeks ago i weighed in at 16st 13lbs, however i slowed my eating down a tab and started at a gym, and managed to get down to 16st 6 lbs over the course of two weeks, however this was still eating whatever i wanted to but just cutting back slightly.

I weighed in yesterday morning at 16st 6lbs (the same weight still) however i started the induction yesterday and weighed in this morning at 16st 2lbs - could this just be water loss?? I drank 4 litres of water yesterday as i went to the gym last night.

My gym regime mainly consists of cardio. Although i'm overweight, i am also fit with it. I workout for between 60-90 minutes, normally starting on the stationary bike for 10 minutes warm up, then running on the treadmill for 60 full minutes starting at 7K/H and working up to 11K/H. Finally i'll go on the stepper for 10 minutes then another bike for 10 minutes cooldown.

I'm happy that i've managed to last out for a second day (almost), however one thing i have noticed is a strange taste in my mouth - even though i brush my teeh morning and night!!

I'm still at work at the moment - and got a sweet tooth around half hour ago. We have a chocolate box in our office, however i thought about it and decided to go to the fridge instead and see what was in there. I managed to find a pack of cheddar cheese slices with only 0.1g of carbs per 100g, so had two slices of them which seems to have satisfied my cravings!!

Hopefully, i will be able to post in tommorrow morning and confirm that i've lasted the second day of induction!!!

hi girly!!! Welcome to the board and Good luck in your journey!!!!
I am stil learning a lot.. but I believe in the book it says NOT to go over 6 hours wihtout eating... so going all day only eating once will only slow your metabolism down and that is not what we want!
At first you will loose a lot and it will be water but than the fat starts melting off!
    Good luck hun!

Re: I'm on Day 2 of Induction!!

I am only on Day 5 now... But wanted to tell you - I eat ALL the time (or it feels that way anyway). 3 meals, 2 or 3 snacks. And so far I've lost 5.5 pounds in 4 days. The most on any diet EVER! (and I have a serious Thyroid problem that I take meds for...) I think you aren't eating enough - and definitely often enough.

Again, I'm no expert here (and there are lots of those on this board!) but I know from loads of research that going more than 3 hours without something (or eating so much at one meal that you CAN go more than 3 hours) is a recipe for failure and weight gain (ultimately anyway 'cause your body thinks your starving...)

Anyway - try eating small meals more often and see if that helps

          All my best-

            Hi ChickenTM,

I remember you from Journal Chats, and I think we've had this conversation before.

You are not doing Atkins according to the book, actually I don't think you're doing any Low Carb plan that I'm familiar with.

Please read the book again, especially the Induction section and eat! ((CTM))

              HELP HELP HELP!!!

Right, as per Sheshy's advice , i've been reading the book, however i've got a few problems with regard to the recepies suggested.

I'm in England (don't know if that matters) but i don't seem to know of some of the ingredients/foods suggested.

I really want to do it the RIGHT way (STARTING IN THE MORNING) and would therefore really be grateful for some suggestions with regard to meals etc., that i can ACTUALLY get in England - So that i can go to the shops this evening and get the foods.

The book recommends for breakfast - 2 Turkey Sausages and 2 Scrabled Eggs

              No problem with the above.

Lunch - Sounds far too difficult for a bloke to make (me especially) so don't really know what to do instead of.

Dinner - Veal Scallops with White Wine Caper Sauce - No idea what this is

I won't go on listing everything here - but i will be honest in saying that pretty much most of the foods listed i have never heard of.

Is there anybody else from England out there who have had problems?

I'm just in the process of frying some bacon and eggs in Olive Oil - and have had 3 slices of Mild Cheddar Cheese and one Chicken Breast all day - and will be going to the gym after i've eaten.

The menues in the book can be confusing---which is why I never used them. Look through the Acceptable Foods List and write down the foods you like. Then make up your own menu from your list.

By the way, I think in the UK sausages are made with bread crumbs, so you must be very very careful and ask alot of questions before assuming a sausage is okay to eat.

Thanks for the Sausage advice - i'll take a look at the ingredients list on the packet - why does England seem to do everything so different to the rest of the world

Hi there - I'm in Denmark and it's even WORSE in terms of being able to get some of the things listed in the book. The best thing I've done is browse thru the boards and 'steal' some recipes from the board and also some menus as well.

The other cool thing is to go to www.fitday.com and get a free account. You can input any food and see what the carbs, proteins, etc. are in each.

Many people out here have included their recipes too - and since induction doesn't really allow 'Frankenfoods' (which by the way, I smuggle FROM England into Denmark when I get the chance - so you are better off there! ), then it should be pretty straight forward.

For example: (and I'm a newbie - but doing LOTS of reading!) Dana Carpender's book "How I gave up my low fat diet and lost 40 pounds" and her cookbook "500 low carb recipes" (easy, easy, recipes) are wonderful!

Breakfast: Two eggs, Bacon or Sausage (check the packaging for carbs)

Snack: pork rinds or a little cheese (if you have access to a microwave and need chewy, salty - I highly recommend an ounce or so of cheese cut in thin slices on a plate, little salt, microwave for 2 - 2 1/2 minutes. Let cool 30 - 45 seconds. (be sure and spray the plate with non-stick first or use baking paper))

Lunch: Chicken breast over a small salad. (great dressing recipes can be found here also)

Snack: olives and cheese, or avocado, or pork rinds, or ...

Dinner: Steak, Garlic Butter, Steamed veggies or salad from list

                      Snack: Diet Gelatin

OK - there are loads of examples out there but I've found in Denmark I can easily find/buy/make the above in a variety of combinations in less than 10 minutes.

                      I hope that helps...

                        Hi Kacey,

Thanks for taking the time out to post the above advice

I know exactly what you mean about checking the carb content on bacon, as i was in the supermarket last night at 23:30 after i finished the gym looking for more bacon, i wouldn't purchase anything unless it had the nutritional content listed, as some bacon has around 1 g of carb per 100g, whilst another packet may have 0g per 100g.

I looked through absolutely EVERY packet of sausages on the shelves (the shelf fillers kept looking at me as if i was mad or something, as it was fast approaching 24:00 and they must have thought i've got nothing else better to do at that time of night - like sleep, that most 'normal' people do ) however i couldn't find ANY sausages, not even the chicken and turkey type, that had low carbs, most had around 7g per 100g, so i decided against the sausages and went for turkey rashers to compliment the bacon.

I then went in search of sausage meet, as i thought that may be low in carbs, but couldn't find any and when i asked the assistant she said they are out of stock. Does anybody else know the carb content of sausage meet? By sausage meet i mean long rolls of mashed up meet that you press out into whatever shape you like, for example a beefburger shape, a sausage shape etc.,

Just a quick note: (I don't know about sausage because we don't have that kind of meat in Denmark)

Try - buy a package of chicken breasts, buy ground hamburger meat.

Spend 1/2 hour in front of the stove and make hamburger patties and chicken breasts. Stick 1 or 2 of each in fridge. Stick rest in freezer.

Wa la.... chicken breasts (cut up) over salad with some dressing from the menu board here. Or crumble the hamburger patty over a salad, add some cheese and salsa - and TACO SALAD!

I've also made bacon cheeseburgers (take you hamburger to work, put some cheese and pre-cooked bacon on it) pop in micro - 1 minute. Yum!

Also made a variation of Reuben sandwich. Sauercraut, Chicken pieces or Pepperoni pieces, cheese - microwave. Add tangy mustard dressing. (I can send you the recipe if you like. EASY AND WONDERFUL!)

Anyway - hope that helps a little. Also makes it quick and easy - and with the meat sitting there in front of you when you open the fridge you are more inclined not to cheat!

                          Good luck!

Ok - here's the two recipes: (from Dana Carpender's book)
