  • COUNTING CARBs QUESTION...HELP

hi, i have a question . should you count the carbs from the nutritional label or by what the Atkins site says. (I also have a big book w/carb info from Atkins). The reason whay I'm asked is because the net carb counts vary a great deal. Maybe I'm not eat enought carbs or maybe too many. Thanks so much!

    Re: COUNTING CARBs QUESTION...HELP

For fresh vegetables/fruits, I typically go with a nutritional info site, like the USDA website, or with a nutritional counts book, like Netzers.

For anything packaged or canned, I go by what's on the label.

        Re: COUNTING CARBs QUESTION...HELP

Oh, all you do is type in the food. Hit the search button. Some foods will have alot of choices. For example, "green beans" gives you at least a dozen choices. Since all vegetables on Atkins Induction is measured before cooking, you'll need to select "Beans, snap, green raw". Then on the next page, click off the 100 gram option, and check whatever is closest to what you want. So if you want to know how many carbs are in 1/2 cup of raw green beans, then type 0.5 in the amount box of the 1 cup selection.

If you use frozen of canned products, again use the values on the package.

Question for you on this issue Megs - is Fitday reliable for determining the nutritional values on veggies? I have been using it, but wasn't completely sure.

And anything that has a label, I definitely calculate by label.

Fitday uses the USDA data. And I've had some people say that the USDA's info isn't the most accurate.

The bottomline is to be consistent with how you use these data bases. For fresh, on-packaged foods, I use the USDA website typically. For anything packaged (including those bags of salad mixes), I go by what the nutritional info on them says.
