    I see many folks counting calories (journal areas); should I do this?

    nope. Follow Dr Atkins advice and selcet your foods from the legal lists and rungs as you progress. Use that wonderful rule about only eating enough to satisfy your hunger and stop to control your portion sizes as you have servings of protein fat and healthy allowed carbs at every meal and you will learn to control your caloric intake without having to count them.

      DANDR p. 143 says there is no need to count them, but they do count. The book also contains a table with exercises and calorie expenditures for different people, and we need to count in order to figure the percentages of total caloric intake for fat, protein and carbs to keep them in proper ratio.

        WAtch your portions and listen to your body. You'll find that some days you will eat more than other days.

          Answer: Yes and No!

          When you first start Atkins, no don't even worry about it. When you are in a stall or near goal, you may need to. I have to, otherwise I will eat too much food from the "safe" food lists and not lose weight.

          One thing I have to remind myself over and over is...I don't need to eat for a 185 lb person. I need to eat for a 141 lb person. The smaller you get, the less you need to eat to be satisfied. But some people (ME) don't adjust for that, and then wonder why we can't lose weight. And its very hard for me to do, I like that "too full feeling".

          I actually started breaking up my meals into much smaller portions, and I have been eating them once every two hours. I'm hoping my stomach will eventually shrink back down to more normal, like it used to be. I can really pack away the food if I want to.
