  • Soy Milk

In the book it says soy cheese is allowed during induction, but how about soy milk? The brand "8th Continent" has a "light soy milk" with 2 carbs per 8 oz. serving(this is NOT vanilla flavored). Thanks for any help you can give.

My thoughts are if it's not on the acceptable foods list for induction, then it's a NO.

      Re: Soy Milk

I just didn't know if the "light soy milk" was available in 2002 when he revised the book. If it became available after 2002, maybe someone out there might know for sure if it can be added to the legal list. Thanks for any info. anyone can supply.

To add to what 2Big said, "soy cheese" is another name for tofu. It used to be called "soy cheese" before vegan companies began making soy-based imitation cheese.

Tofu is allowed for everyone, vegetarian or not. Tofu is essentially a soy protein product. If you click the link in my siggy, that will bring you to my website. I have an article on soy products there explaining how they are made.

It also depends on what kind of vegetarian the person is. I was a lacto-ovo vegetarian for several years, therefore, using eggs or dairy products like cheese, butter and cream wouldn't have been a problem for me.

And finally....Induction is a minimum of 14 days. On day 15 any type of vegetarian can move onto the OWL phase and begin incorporating more foods to balance their diets.
