    Hi folks ,
I am 26 years old, single(height 5'5) doctor, living in Pakistan. I was chubby right from childhood.I started low fat diet in 2003 and lost 55Ibs in 3years.I was almost starving myself eating only small quantity of lentils and some fruits.I was 100 Ibs in december 2005.But due to some tragedies in my family life i went in to depression and start craving sugars and had binge eating but i was excercising regularly for 1 hour. I regained my weight very quickly.N ow i am ver worried and wants to loose 35Ibs in 2 months before my sister wedding. I have heard a lot abt atkins that it work instantly but i am really scared of sugar craving symptoms as in my country we have no Atkins candy bars and shakes.I wanna start it from tomorrow but confused that whethe it will work or not and how i am going to tolerate those craving episodes and survive on meat and cheese.Kindly advice me soon.

    Hi and welcome.

First off, you really need to read Dr. ATkins New Diet Revolution, 2002 edition. It will tell you how this diet works and what kinds of foods you can eat. Too many people assume that Atkins is a meat, eggs, and cheese diet. That's not true. For you it will be vitally important to understand how this diet works, because you will have to adapt the vegetables available to you in Pakistan to the Atkins diet. For example, I don't know how available vegetables such as radishes, cucumbers, mustard greens, zucchini, etc. are in your country and you may need to find low carb alternatives.

Secondly, you don't need the Atkins bars, shakes, etc. to do this diet properly. You only need fresh food, minimally processed and refined foods, exercise and a good undertanding of this diet.

    Good luck to you.

You might want to post in the Internation Forum too. I recall we have an ADBB member who is also from Pakistan and could give you more guidance on how to do Atkins, International style.

I wouldn't worry a bit about those Atkins bars and shakes. I have read that they are actually detrimental to weight loss, even if they are Atkins bars and shakes. What you want is real, natural food - not food substitutes You'll do better without the pre-packaged stuff. I actually gained 4 pounds a couple of days ago and other members here pointed out that I mentioned eating an Atkins bar, and that could very well be the problem.

Also, drink a LOT of water!

You'll probably want to check out these threads, too. Infinitely helpful!

1st goal: 10 pounds by July 1 (Met this goal on June 22)

      2nd goal: 25 pounds by July 29

      End goal: Who knows?

don't hope decide you will and then do it we will be here to support you and help you get there remeber it is just one bite at a time.

know you will feel awful when you start as you withdraw from sugars and other things you need to give up but know in a few days you will feel great. follow dr Atkins advice and stay off the scales until day 15 and be amazed at how well you have done.

          happy low carbing.
