  • Day 14 of Induction Stats

    Hey everyone!
I just completed my 14 day Induction without cheating even once. I am thrilled and my cravings have pretty much subsided, although I have to admit I have not placed myself in compromising situations like parties or restaurants.

The only question/problem I am having is that I lost 4 pounds in the first 5 days and I have not lost a pound or any inches. I am in moderate ketosis according to the test I took today. I started exercising 8/1/06 but since I did not move for 4 years, it is slow going. I am up to 30 minutes at a fairly slow pace on the eliptical machine at the gym (burning about 250 calories in 3/4 mile).

I do not understand why I am not losing weight at all in the last 8 days. I am drinking plenty of water. I am eating chicken breast & thighs, lots of tuna w/mayonaise, eggs and more eggs, swiss cheese, cheddar cheese, canned salmon, an occasional couple of slices of Black Forest Ham rolled up with swiss cheese. More water.

It seems too early to have reached a plateau after losing only 4 pounds. Can it be that my poor carb abused body is still trying to adjust to having no carbs? Please advise. I am not going off induction until I am completely sure my body is cooperating with the Atkins plan. I did Atkins about 5 years ago and lost 65 pounds. I don't remember weight loss slowdown this early.

Re: Day 14 of Induction Stats

First of all, congratulations on completing Induction and losing 4 pounds! And a double congrats on getting your exercise going!!!!!

In looking at your menu, I would drastically reduce the cheese as that stalls alot of people. Also, eliminate the processed meats since they contain alot of sodium. Try and add in more veggies, especially those high in fiber.

Are you using Fitday? That will help ensure that you are getting the right ratio of 65% fat, 30% protein and 5% carbs per day.

KEEP ON KEEPING ON! Sometimes our bodies just need time to adjust to our new way of eating!

    You'll get there!

slow down weight loss isn't linear and remember fat loss is your goal not scale numbers. check those inches and see what is going on. you will see you are shrinking Also stalls are 4 weeks of no inches nor pounds not 8 days.

Because of very complecated bichem reasons the human body does not like to alter the shape so it will plump your tissues with water which is denser then fat so you shed inches while the scales do not validate your hard work. Also when you start or change any exercise program the new to your muscles load makes them think you are in danger and they must rescue you so they store up any and all materials they need to do this quickly and again fluids are pumped into your muscles. in time the muscles will realize this new to them load is thier new regular load and they will release their fluids. When the body's tolerance for the biochem interferance of the plumped fluids is exceeeded ithey too will be released and you will get what we call a whooshie factor of a nice overnight scale movement. you are also adding muscle mass and the scale doesn't know if you shed 4 pounds of fat added 2 of muscle and 2 of fluid all it knows is your total mass didn't change.

Make surte you are eating only enough food to satisfy your hunger at the time you are eating do your exercise, drink your water and eat only what is allowed in chapter 11 and 14 if you are moving to OWL and you will be a loser.
Since you need the scales to validate your efforts and hard work doing your Atkins as you Morph your body into a healthier smaller you join the no weigh folk and watch in a mazement every month as pounds are gopne and your clothes get loser. Happy low carbing.

Re: Day 14 of Induction Stats

I agree with Betty about the processed foods you're eating---lots of sodium which can result in water retention for some people.

Also where are your veggies? The majority of your daily carbohydrates should be coming from the veggies on the Induction Acceptable Food List. Don't make the mistake of thinking Atkins is a high protein diet, because it isn't. Your body will convert excess protein into sugar and excess sugar is stored as fat. Approximately 58% of the protein you eat is converted to sugar by your body. So if you eat an additional 3 1/2 ounces (100 grams) of protein it will be converted into almost 2 ounces (58 gram) of sugar.

So be sure to eat your veg---they provide fiber, vitamins and minerals beneficial to your health. The fiber not only keeps you regular but also prevents you from overeating the protein. Most of the veggies on the Induction Acceptable Food list have 5 or less net carbs per 1 cup serving.
