  • Question about appetite

    Hi,

I started induction Monday and for the first few days I felt like I was hungry all the time but yesterday and today I haven't had much of an appetite, is that normal?

Also, I've read most of the Atkins books but I'm a bit confused about the salad issue. I love them and could eat a large one for lunch and dinner with ham and turkey but it says you're only supposed to have 3 cups so I'm not sure what else to eat besides meat (which I"m not totally fond of). Does anyone have a link or some good induction recipies so I can add some variety into my meals?

    Thanks so much!

      Re: Question about appetite

There are about 21 vegetables on the salad list and about 30 vegetables on the "other" list. So don't limit yourself to lettuce salads. The veggies must be measured raw during Induction, but you can certainly cook them.

As for the veggie limit, Induction lasts a minimum of 14 days. After those 14 days you can move onto the On-Going Weight Loss (OWL) phase where the first thing you add is an addition 5 net carbs of vegetables. Depending on the vegetable 5 net carbs could be 1/2 cup to 15 cups! So if you are a veggie lover or just want more vegetables, move onto OWL on Day 15.

        Re: Question about appetite

It's to be expected that while your body is counting on carbs for energy, you experience hunger as your body runs low on fuel. Once it runs out and switches to burning fat (ketosis) your body has plenty of ful so appetite drops off.

Besides your 3 cups of veggies (mix & match - not just lettuce), get variety with eggs, seafood, shellfish, meats, avocado, olives, and cheese. With butter, olive oil, may and herbs & spices, there are many tasty meals you can eat.

          Hi prfctlildvl, welcome to ADBB!

Induction is quite strict, but is by no means just meat and salad. You can have 2 cups of salad vegetables as well as one cup cooked veggies. Most of your carbs should come from your vegetables, so choose ones that give you the most bang for your buck (so to speak) There's quite a few to choose from. You can have all different sorts of meats, eggs, up to four ounces of cheese, pork rinds (if you like them)

Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes is a great site! She's got all of her induction friendly recipes marked with an asterisk.*

            Re: Question about appetite

Thanks so much for all the help. I've had trouble losing weight in the past from not eating. My kids used to call me "camel" because I'd eat one day and then go two days with no food, eat like crazy for a day and then go days without eating again.

I did that for so many years that my metabolism ceased to exist so whatever I eat, I don't burn off. I tried Atkins about two years ago and didn't make it through induction because I didn't give it a chance but this time I've set my mind to do it and do it exactly as I'm supposed to.

1poundatatime: You look wonderful - the change in your face in just three months is so noticeable. It's hard to believe that in that short time a person can change so much. Thank you so much for the link, I'm going to go check it out right now and mark it as a favorite.

iwillbethin: What an amazing transformation! I wish all the people that say Atkins doesn't work or isn't healthy would take a look at all the people that have been successful and are now happier and healthier.

            Thanks all!
