Are you allowe to have the Atkins shakes during induction? Any personal experiences?

    Re: Atkins Shakes

It's been the collective experience of ADBB that shakes, bars, etc. have a tendency to stop or slow down weight loss in some people. Since the first 14 days of Induction are very important because the results you get will help you plan the rest of your Atkins, we discourage their use during the first 14 days.

ask yourself if you want to be like the repeat Slimfast folk shedding the pounds fast but gaining them back over and over again. Use chapter 11 food lists so you can learn to eat in the real world with portion control and acceptable foods and recipes to help you morph your body to be the healthier smaller person you want to be.

Use the shake mix as flour in the later part of the plan.

no don't start again just leep going and know your induction results might be off slightly when you use the charts for metabolic ressitance and estimated CCLL.

Also to note; bars and shakes are better than cheating when stuck in a situation (like a flight).

actually if you had time to go buy a bar or shake for a flight you had time to buy real food for your flight too.

actually you cant always take real food on an international flight... regardless of the example; a bar can be better than cheating think you would agree

Gosh, now you can't take anything, right?! My friend told me they are even banning gel bras. GEL BRAS. Can you imagine going to the airport and being told to remove your bra for the flight? Ack!

Had to laugh when I read about the "gel bra" removal at the airport!

As far as shakes go, I don't stall when I drink them, but I do stall when I have a bar. Everyone is different. I think moderation is key, just don't have the shakes or bars everyday.

But advisable to have neither the bars or the shakes in the first 14 days.

I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!

                        Re: Atkins Shakes

One of the main reasons we discourage the use of bars and shakes is that in the end, they too are processed, and Dr. Atkins devised a program of whole and healthy foods, getting rid of processed foods and replacement bars/meals shakes, to jump start your metabolism into ketosis and weight loss.

Our modern "dieting" society has been pushing all these diet foods, low-fat/lowcalorie replacements foods for many years now, but yet, our population's obesity problem keeps getting worse. Most those here on ADBB who go by DANDR tend to do much better with plain regular food, not replacement processed food.

If bars/shakes stall you on Induction, how will you be able to determine your metabolism status, as Dr. Atkins wrote in DANDR? The same goes for cheating.

I've never had any bars or shakes. If I've been in a situation where I was going to miss a meal, I tried to prepare ahead of time with good nutritious snack, or tried for find something wholesome and good. At the worst, I would recommended eating something from a rung in OWL (ex. nuts, yogurt) rather than have a bar or shake. Or instead of a shake, have a cup of tea with a little sweetener.

                        Just my 2 cents.

I have had to use the odd bar; business travel means meals at regular times and no facility to buy, cook or store fresh food. It isnt advised, but its better than snacking on pringles
