  • Beef jerkey okay during induction?

Is beef jerkey okay to eat during induction? Someone told me that they occassionally indulged during induction and it satisfied some snack cravings but I want to make sure.

If so, does anyone know of a good brand that doesn't have added sugars?

Thank you for all the help!!!

REad the ingredients. Most brands I've read have anywhere from 2-6 carbs per 1 ounce serving.

I used plenty of jerky on induction. Dr. A suggests avoiding processed meats containing nitrates because of the chemical's cancer-causing potential, not because of a negative diet effect. BUT not all jerky (nor bacon, lunch meat, sausage, etc) are created equal. Many have added ingredients for curing and flavor besides nitrite/nitrate. You can eat some, but you have to count carbs. (Note if label says 0g carbs but there's a sugar or corn syrup or other starch ingredient, there is likely up to .5g per serving, as the FDA allows it to be labeled as 0.

Best jerky is made at home with a food dehydator and your own Atkins friendly ingredients

You have to hunt around. It can be hard to find. I used it, but found it didn't really help. What you really want to find is a high fat snack to fight cravings.

Home-Made Beef Jerky is the absolute best...........

Makes me think......I need to post a Martha Stewart jerky recipe....it was pretty awesome, no marinade, just like salt, pepper, rubbed garlic...

When I go home tonight might see what I can find, you could leave the spices on it in layers, for like 2 days, then dry it in the oven for several hours at like 170 degrees.

Much better than cornsyrup infested, teriyakibrownsugar'd poisoned jerky from the store.

sorry. bit harsh. I can't help it. Getting angry at food processors lately.

You can get fresh pork cracklins and nuke them crispy by the handful, when you get cravings, too.

For homemade jerky the choice of meat is yours. I made it from turkey, beef heart, and lean steak, soaked it with a marinade of cider vinegar, garlic and herbs, and dried extra thin slices.

you are right - most jerky will be more protein than fat, so you would need to add fat to make an Atkins-balanced snack of it.

It does make a tasty snack addition though. I have been making my own using vinegar, oil and splenda as a marinade. If you slice the meat really thinly it doesnt take to long to make in a dehydrator.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
