  • I cheated for 2 days :(

Hi all. I was doing so well. I have lost 10 pounds. My family threw a anniversary party for my husband and I. I did really well during the party however after everyone went home there was a cake sitting in my kitchen. I walked past it for the first day, however the following day I ate some. I figured since I blew it I might as well have some other food I should not have. Well that lasted two days. Today I am back on track starting day 1 of induction. I am thankful for this board because It makes me feel accountable for my actions. It is not my little secret that keeps me on the road to disaster.
Success doesn't come to you... you have to go to it!

Jerrica............ THROW THE CAKE OUT! I mean it! Toss that carb laden thing right in the garbage can! Then cover it with coffe grounds and anything else nasty you can.
Now, you have to figure out "why" you ate it? What was the trigger? Your mood, time of day, etc etc., We both know that after you ate it you realized it did not taste that good and was not worth it. So, figure it out..... This way you will be prepared for the next time it happens. AND, then have a plan for how to deal with situations like that.

      I agree with Bren.

After a party at my house I make sure someone else takes any non-Atkins leftovers away with them 'for the journey'.

If someone gives me chocolates I immediately rewrap them with gift wrapping ready to give them away - you can always find a skinny friend or neighbour who would appreciate them!

If I cant get rid of it to someone else then dumping it in the waste bin with a covering of washingup liquid always works for me!!

I figured since I blew it I might as well have some other food I should not have
This comment always worries me when I see members posting similar stories, as I cant see the reasoning behind it.

Surely getting back on-plan immediately after eating something off-plan (whether 'planned' or 'inadvertant') is the most logical response?

So try to change your thinking to something like 'I have blown it for that meal but I will get back to eating properly the very next bite and limit any damage I have done to my body'
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

        That's what I do.

But please try to figure out what triggered you. Life is life and everyday we will be challenged with something. So the 2 most important things is to get back on the diet and to figure out the trigger and develop strategies to deal with similiar situations in the future.

I had a moment at the weekend where I nearly lost it! I use the washing-up liquid method too!! Any left overs on plates, or pieces of "cherry pie" which was the testing food at the weekend, get quickly squirted with washing-up liquid so I can't touch them - it really works!!

All the above is good words of wisdom.
Now, should for some reason you do not learn from this slip-up, bear in mind that not only will a cheat like that throw you out of ketosis, so you may have to again go through the difficult transition period for your body to get back into fat-burning. You may get "induction flu". You may have cravings. It is NOT worth it to cheat!!! Don't let people (including you) leave temptations around if you have difficulty resisting.

            SLAP!

            Now don't do it again!

I was wondering when I saw the thread if Bren would hunt you down and give out the tough love. I totally agree with Elizellen - Just because you have one bite of something sugary and carby doesn't mean the next bite can't be carb-free and putting you back on track. Anything in my house that's loaded with carbs is for my son (including chocolates or cake or anything else), so I can't eat his food or I'd feel bad. It's like taking it out of his mouth, and then the little bugger will starve (at least that's what I tell myself).

Re: I cheated for 2 days

Dont dwell on your cheating, its done there is nothing you can do about it now, as long as you are back on track and commited now is what counts, everyone will be tempted to cheat every now and then, no matter how dedicated you are the words 'will it taste it' will flash in your mind when you see something tempting, lets face it we are trying to break a life-time habbit of eating what we like and we will always be able to find an excuse as to why we deserve it.... You have cheated, you now know that it was not worth it, you now know what it is like to cheat and how you feel after, and think of this the next time you are tempted. Keep going we can only learn by our mistakes, the next time you are tempted you will have the experience to handle it and say no!
