  • 14 Days -Only 1 pound lost!!!

    A couple of days ago I hit my 14 day Induction Phase goal. Sadly, no real weight loss. I did Atkin's 4 years ago, lost tons of weight quickly and kept it off for 2 years. What am I doing differently to have no weight loss this time???!!!



    First off, I'm using Splenda frequently (in drinks & my nightly 2 scoops of CarbSmart ice cream). I have also had 2 nights of alcohol during my 14 day induction, PLUS I cheated a couple of times at social gatherings by eating things off my diet. Although I cut back substantially, these cheats have ruined my weight loss.



    This is meant to be a warning for anyone starting the induction phase or failing in it. Don't use Splenda products until you've reached your goal weight, count your carbs religiously during the 1st week (1 Splenda ='s 1 Carb no matter what the package says), and stay on the diet. I just signed up for Bally's Fitness to start exercising. I look forward to feeling firm & strong again.



    So, TODAY starts my true Induction Phase. No more messing around!!!

    Good for you for taking stock of what you did wrong and determining not to repeat the mistake again!

    And thank you for posting your experience as a warning to others who might make the same mistakes.

    Here at ADBB we try to persuade everyone to do induction 'by the book' to maximise their chances of weightloss.

    As well as what you mentioned I would emphasise the importance of reading labels:

    If any ingredients of anything you want to eat are not on the 'allowed list' then they are NOT induction-legal so wait till you reach the relevant level/rung of OWL before adding them back in.

      Have you read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution version 2002? The reason I ask is because there are several things you talk about that are NOT allowed on induction.

      The first is Splenda IS allowed on induction but only 3 servings a day. That means 3 packets...and that's it.
      Low Carb ice cream is NOT allowed on induction and is not allowed until you get to the dairy rung of the Ongoing Weight Loss phase.
      Alcohol is NOT allowed on induction and is not allowed until you get to the alcohol phase of Ongoign Weight Loss.

      I don't think people have to wait until they get to goal to consume Splenda. The key here is to limit to 3 per day.

      We are here to help, and that may mean Tough Love at times. I recommend that you re-read the DANDR if you have read it long ago. I also recommend reading the FAQ section on this board, since you are reinducting that you do it the right way so that you'll get results.

        Yes, I have the book and have re-read most of it. I must have missed the "no low-carb ice cream" bit. Plus, I was trying to reduce my carbs substancially and see if that would work without the full Induction. Obviously, it didn't work for me so I want to get back to doing it by the book & to a T. I have just been so surprised that Splenda drinks & other items can make such a difference in not losing wieght. I am truly shocked I haven't lost any given the changes I made.

        I appreciate your input & kicking my butt to do it right!

          Well done for reading 'the book'
          The "no low-carb icecream" isnt specifically outlawed in DANDR but most commercial brands are illegal if you check the ingredients against the allowed foods list - as it usually contains milk.
          There are recipes around to make a serving of 'legal' icecream for an occasional dessert.

            chapter 11 is thew only things you can eat in induction no if and or buts

            oh and exercise is mandatory from day one too so now you can redo your efforts with a propper 14 days and come back and tell us the difference Make friends with your tape measure so you can also see the inches of fat being shed doing a propper Atkins too as you morph your body shedding fat mass and adding lean body tissue.
