  • Cream Question

I've never noticed this before and it's confusing me.

In the induction section of the book under allowable foods:

    Beverages:
"cream (heavy or light); limit to two to three tablespoons a day"

    Special Category Foods
"three ounces of unsweetened heavy cream"

Aren't those the same thing? The cream I use is the heavy whipping cream so what's my limit supposed to be?

And just what exactly is "light" cream? Is that half and half?

You cant have it twice, youre correct.

Light cream is lower in butterfat content - its not a low fat diet

Thanks for the reply, Joe but I'm still confused. LOL

I know I can't have it twice. I'm wondering why it's listed like that... 3 ounces of cream is twice as much as three tablespoons so I'm wondering what I'm not understanding about how it's listed.

        Re: Cream Question

Light cream is also known as "table cream" or "coffee cream". The butter fat percentage is lower than heavy cream. And in my area, it's harder to find.

As for the differing amounts of cream....the 3 ounces is listed in the "Special Category Foods". These foods "occasionally slow down weight loss in some people, and may need to be avoided in the first two weeks. If you seem to be losing slowly, moderate your intake of these foods. " So, personally, I wouldn't use 3 ounces of heavy cream during the first 2 weeks. And I've never seen the occasion to use that much cream on one or two things. See if you whip that amount of cream, it will increase in volume by twice the amount so the 3 ounces cream (about 1/3 cup) would be about 2/3 to 1 cup whipped. That's alot of volume!

bad editing pure and simple. they merged the new changed info in with the old 19192 stuff they were keeping and didn't do a good job proofing it.

                  Re: Cream Question

anybody can use the 3 ounces if like Sugarfree Shelia it doesn't interfer with their weight loss as Dr Atkins advises. Some of us can and some of us can't. you will need to see for yourself it you can or can't. since I only like cream in large amounts mixed with cocoa powder to make NOT2LATES addictive dessert i don't allow large amounts in my house and both cream and cocoa powder aren't allowed to live at the same time here either!
