has anyone tried the fat fast in the DANDR? if yes, how long were you on it and what were your results? i started a fat fast today, but did 1300 calories with 90% fat. i'm pretty hungry but trying to spread out the food to every 2 hours.

    Re: Fat Fast...

I'm very confused by your actions on Aug 30th you were on day 4 of induction and were overeating porkrinds now 9 days later you are doing the fat fast??? thatisn't even 14 days to finish your induction and see what your metabolic resistance level was so why the jump to the plan used only by those with metabo;lic resistance after 14 days of induction completed

The fat fast is very dangerous for folk not metabolically resistant. JoanOH has a stickie post all about her experience doing it and losing weight but regaining it too as did many others in the topic. use the search feather and you can read about it.

Tanya did you really read about when to do fat fast. I have been on this board since March of 03 and haven't seen one post that was positive about doing fatfast. Thats lots of folks who tried it and didn't like it at all. Reread Chapter 11 if you want to lose weight. You'll be glad you did

        Re: Fat Fast...

Just an FAQ about the Fat Fast:

In DANDR 2002, Dr. Atkins wrote that the Fat Fast is for the people who are severely resistant to weight loss. It's not to "speed up" the rate of your loss because you believe you are losing too slowly.

According to Dr. Atkins you can be severely metabolically resistant to weight loss for a number of reasons. But you have to rule out any weight loss "stallers" that can be reversed or alleviated.

Before considering doing the Fat Fast:

        1. Did you follow the book exactly during Induction and still didn't lose any weight?

In other words, did you only eat what was listed on the Induction Acceptable Foods list, followed the rules of Induction, exercised, took your vitamin supplements, etc. ? If you didn't do any or all of these things, your lack of weight loss might not be due to metabolic resistance to weight loss at all and you should really consider doing the diet properly before considering to do the Fat Fast.

        2. Did you go to your doctor to have tests done for the following: hyperinsulinism, thyroid problems, and yeast overgrowth?

If any of these things apply to you, then your doctor should be able to give you treatments to help you with these problems and once these problems are solved your weight loss, typically, will improve.

        3. Are you on any medications that can interfere with your weight loss?

Dr. Atkins cites anti-arthritis medications, steroids, hormones (birth control pills, HRTs), anti-depressants, diuretics and beta-blockers as some of the medications that can interfere with weight loss. If you are on any of these medications, you should sit down with your doctor and try to figure out if any alternatives can be given to you instead.

If you have gone through this list and have ruled out these things with your doctor, then Fat Fast might be an option for you.

Fat Fast isn't for you if:

        1. You "cheated" through your Induction phase by not strictly following the Rules and/or eating foods not on the Acceptable Foods List or not in the quantities allowed during Induction. Those "sneaks", "cheats", and "one bites" can severely derail weight loss in some people.

        2. You are losing weight and want to "break a stall".

        3. You want to "speed up your metabolism" to lose weight faster.

        4. You want to lose weight faster.

so today is day 15 for you how did your 14 days turn out? look in chapter 12 and 13 and see how well you did conquering your blood sugar issues and what your metabolic type is. then answer the questions in chapter 13 and see if you are ready to move to OWL or do an extended induction. many folk who think they lost slow in induction actually do better in OWl.

Yes, it is frustrating, but Induction is a minimum of 14 days. Just promise yourself to do it for 14 days and see what the results are on Day 15.

Remember, it didn't take you or any of us 14 days to gain our weight, so we can't expect to lose it in that space of time either.

                Re: Fat Fast...

i've been following the rules to the letter. i've been working out too. but i've been off work for 3 weeks. i'm a bartender/waitress, so my level of activity is normally much higher. i'm used to running my *** off for 7-8 hours a day. it's hard to compensate that level of a workout, so i'm sure that has A LOT to do with my body not responding like it should. i go back to work in 2 days, so hopefully once i get back in the saddle i'll start to see results. just a little depressing, ya know? our scale is broken so i can't weigh in, but i took measurements and really didn't see a difference. it's all good though, i'm not gonna quit !!!

Keep up the positive attitude. You'll do find. Do you have some tight jeans. Go try them on and see if you don't slip into them a lot easier. Are you drinking your water?

                    Re: Fat Fast...

drinking tons of water. HATE WATER!!! but i'm forcing myself to choke down 100 oz a day. one pair of jeans fit a teeny bit looser. but my "skinny jeans" have been taunting me from a hanger on the outside of my closet door for two weeks now.i hung them there for inspiration when i wanted to cheat. i tried them on today and still couldn't get them buttoned. 6 months ago they were loose on me. i think i'm going to burn them on principal and just buy NEW skinny jeans when i slim down! haha. my BF said i looked slimmer today, but the measurements don't lie. all well, God bless the men who lie to us!
