  • Feeling Stupid

I really am not a stupid human, but this diet is beginning to make be feel like one! I read the book, (I'm now sure it is the correct book! Thank you dotsamantha for posting the covers of the right books!) I lost 9 lbs and immediately gained all but one back. (There was no purposeful cheating involved!) Although I had kept my carb consumption under the required 20 I somehow missed cottage cheese not being on the induction menu. Worse, though I started off eating 3 meals a day I had quickly regained my old habit of only eating one to two meals a day.

Gaining the lost weight back so quickly was puzzling, so, I went back and re-read the book. And, I started over again. Only this time I did the cup thing, you know, the 2 - 3 cups of allowed vegetables with an additional of the third variety allowed if the other type didn't exceed two cups. I have been very careful to eat only 'allowed' foods this time. (I took the advice of the kind person who said to print of the list and keep it everywhere!)

Today I discovered a nifty thing at www.extrapounds.com A food log thingy that allows you to check carbs per cup, etc. and that adds it up for you. That is a new find for me and beyond valuable. Unfortunently, I have now discovered that even using the 2 cups per day of allowed stuff with the addition of the additional cup from the other list put me over the carb limit! And here I thought I had done so well!

I am so frustrated, yet I am determined! All I have to do is visit the before and after threads to know that this diet works; I just have to figure out the various 'traps' and loops and have faith! So, I am beginning......again.....

Congratulations for realizing where you went wrong and for not blaming the WOE and giving up.

Most of the carb counters don't figure your net carbs, they figure your total carbs so you may not have really been over. You need to get your carb count and minus the dietary fiber to get your net carbs.

www.fitday.com also has a great counter that you can customize.

Right, you need to deduct the fiber.

Thank you! All right, to make sure I have this straight, I take the total of the carbs, then subtract the fiber number? As in, 21 carbs - 5 fiber would equal 16 net carbs for the day?

                    Re: Feeling Stupid

If you feel its dumb ask anyway. Better to look dumb then to be uninformed with Atkins. We all have to ask questions. If we didn't I doubt this board would be much success.
