  • ate out Mexican tonight

I have some concerns about what I ate tonight, but I don't have my sticks to find out. We went to a Mexican place. I had chiles rellenos, two of them. I know how they're made and thoguht they'd be perfect for low-carb. It's made of peppers, stuffed with cheese, coated in meringued egg white and fried crispy. They were sooo good. But when I came home and punched them in fitday, they came up at 14g carb. That's a lot for induction. And I had also eaten Mexican-style shrimp cocktails while everyone else had chips... it's a dish of a very chunky salsa made of garlic, onions, avacado, roma tomatoes & jalapeƱos. With shrimp. I asked to make sure they didn't add sugar. But my concern is that it was a lot of veggies by the time I left... I'm sure more than I should have had on induction.

I'm on day five a totally clean induction and soooo don't want to make any mistakes. At the end of this 14 days, when I step on the scale, I want to really know it was the best I could do.

Josie, one of two things probably happened.

    1) You had veggies during the day BEFORE you went to this restaurant and you went over your 2 cup limit.

    OR

    2) You had all your veggies in this one meal.

Both are no-no's on a squeaky clean (nit picky) induction....but i would NOT sweat that unless it's something happening every day.

Did you plug in your own ingredients for the chili rellenos, cause most of them are fried in a batter that has flour so that what fitday might have been talking about.

        Re: ate out Mexican tonight

Okay, I feel pretty dumb. When I lived in Mexico, I used to help the house mother make chiles rellenos and she never used flour - just the egg white. So I assumed that's what everyone did.

But when I read your response, I did a search for recipes and they all say flour too. So I very likely ate flour on induction. I wish I could just NOT eat out, but that's not always a choice.

So in order to have a clean induction, I'll have to start counting again from today, right? That so sucks. I'm on day 6 and was so proud.

          Re: ate out Mexican tonight

Just pick up where you left off. If yesterday (saturday) was day 5, then today (sunday) is Day 6. It takes 2-3 days to use up your glycogen, so by this time your pre-Atkins glycogen stores have been used up.

If your CCLL is high, you might very well be able to handle the amount of those carbs in that meal/day. But you won't know your CCLL until you've found it in OWL or if you've been on Atkins before, moved to OWL and know remember what your CCLL was, it might be the same or it might not be the same.

So chalk this up to a learning experience and check your results on Day 15. Don't make the mistake of re-counting and re-counting, because there is that post-Induction hesistation thing in which for some folks they don't lose weight between the 3rd and 6th week of being on this diet. See, if you mess up on day 7, then count the next day as Day 1, you're really on the 2nd week of the diet. So your second week of the restart is really the 3rd week of the original start date and your "2nd week" of the restart results might be influenced by the post Induction hesistation.

Glycogen is one of the storage forms of sugar. The other is fat. Glycogen is found in the liver and in muscle. When you use up your liver glycogen, your body starts using its fat.

According to Dr. Atkins, it takes 2-3 days to use up that liver glycogen store. So if you're on day 6, than you've been "burning" your fat for at least 3 days already.

yep just hang in there and know on day 15 your weight loss isn't going to be the perfect indicator of your metabolic resistance type but you will be healthier and smaller.

                  Re: ate out Mexican tonight

Good news. I bought sticks this morning (at 10am as soon as the pharmacy opened). I was still "in". So I visited the restaurant and asked him about how much flour he thinks there is in the chile relleno and he said he doesn't use it for them. I could have hugged the man, but I think I had already weirded him out enough. So I still might have gone a little over in veggies, but I haven't gone off the induction list.

                  Quiche tonight.

See, all is well. Fajitas are a good choice as is Carne Asada.
