    Re: carbs in lettuce

1 cup of lettuce has about 0.5 net carbs and very little nutrients (vitamins, minerals, fiber) too. Try to increase your nutrients by having some of the other "salad" vegetables off the Induction List. Our goal is to lose weight healthfully.

FYI, here is the link to the USDA Nutrient Database:
    http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/

It lists the nutrient information for many, many foods.

I usually omit the lettuce and have a salad of raw green peppers, cucumbers, cheese cubes, bacon bits and ranch dressing.

The green peppers and cucumber are both high in carbs to get you to your daily veggie carb counts and they are both very nutritious compared to lettuce which doesn't contribute much to your daily numbers.

I vary the ingredients in my veggie salad so that it doesn't get too boring and I save my lettuce for wraps or a taco salad.

okay so can you give me an example of cups used for your cucumbers in your salad, like half a cup or less? And do you know how many carbs are in that do you also include chicken or have your meat seperatly.. I am day 3 in induction and have lost 3 pounds I dont even care if It is water loss any negative numbers on the scale is good for me...
        thanks!

Go to www.fitday.com and you can track everything that you eat during the day. It's a great tool. It gives you a running total so you know if you're eating too little or too much.

Just remember that fitday tracks your total carbs, not your net carbs. You want to keep track of your net carbs. You need to subtract your dietary fiber from the carbs to get your net carbs. You shouldn't be taking in anymore than 20 net carbs a day and 12-15 of those should come from your veggies. Also, your percentages should be around 65% fat, 30% protein and 5% carbs which fitday will figure for you.

You should be spreading your 3 cups of veggies throughout the day, not just one meal so keeping track on fitday will let you know what you've already had and what you need to eat before the day is through.

Have you read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution? You really should read the book from cover to cover before starting as induction is a crucial phase and you need to follow it exactly to understand why you are eating this way and it will also ensure a successful induction.

The rules of induction are also on the ADBB somewhere. I'll see if I can find the link but you really should read the book if you haven't.
