  • 1st Day

    Hello Everyone,

My daughter and I started our first day today. I'm excited and nervous at the same time. Will we really lose the weight that fast within two-weeks if we stick to it?????

I'm 29 and my starting weight before atkins 249.50. I startd curves and lost a few, so now I'm 246.50. Goal weight 185.

My daugher is 12 and her weight before curves was 259.50 and two weeks later 255.50, she's young and her weight seems to be flying off, and that's great!

    Hi and welcome.

First off congrats for making a decision to take control of your life.

Secondly, weight loss is individual because it depends on age, sex, activity level, general health, metabolism and how well the diet is followed. We can expect to lose 5-10% of the weight we need to lose during the first 2 weeks of this diet. For a person with a 100 pound goal, that means at least 5-10 pounds. For a person with a 10 pound goal, that means at least a 1/2 pound to 1 pound loss.

Thirdly, you daughter is pretty young. I hope you have her pediatrician on board during this weight loss period so that she can be monitored. Children have different nutritional needs than us older people. So you don't want to restrict her nutrients to the point where she becomes deficient and affects her general health.

There is an "Atkins for children" diet. It is outlined in a book called Feed Your Kids Well. It is by Fred Pescatore, MD. Dr. Pescatore was the Associate Director of the Atkins CEnter during the 1990s. Dr. Atkins wrote the introduction to the book and stated the diet in that book is the one used at the Atkins Center for their child and teen patients. So I encourage you to read that because it is much more nutritionally tailored for a child than Atkins is. And I also encourage you to get your pediatrician on board, if you haven't done that yet.

      Hi Nettypooh
Welcome to our ADBB family of losers!

It looks as if you are both well motivated and raring to go already - are you carrying on going to curves during induction? If so you may well experience a much better than average result.

An average loss during the first 14 days on induction is said to be between 5% and 10% of the total you need to lose, so if you lose somewhere between 3-6 pounds you will be doing great!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

          Re: 1st Day

I just wanted to wish you the best on attempting to get your diet and eating. under control. I made a video on this same subject (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rov8j_6SWtU) -- have a look and see if it resonates with you. The real answer is you will never know unless you try it and follow the rules. This WOE will work -- whether it be fast or slow, you will be eating healthier and be in control demonstrably of what you are eating.
