I read the book and just want to make sure I have my veggie info correct. I can have a cup of squash as long as my salad veggies are 2 cups or less right? Can I have 2 cups of squash (or something from that list of veggies) instead if the 2 cups of salad veggies? And what list was celery under and how much can I have of that?

Re: Veggies
The veggies are divided into a "salad vegetable list" and a "other vegetable list".
You are allowed a total of 3 cups of vegetables daily.
You can divide that 3 cups either 3 cups of salad list veggies OR 2 cups of the salad list veggies and 1 cup of the other list veggies.
By the way, what kind of squash are you talking about. The only 'legal' squashes for Induction are summer squashes (zucchini and yellow squash), spaghetti squash and pumpkin.~Megs~

Re: Veggies
I forgot to answer your other question. No you cannot have 2 cups of the "other" list veggies. The vegetables on that list tend to be higher in carbs than the "salad" list veggies. If you want to be able to eat more vegetables, move to OWL as soon as your 14 Day Induction period is up.
As for what vegetables are on the Induction Acceptable Foods list, you really should get into the habit of looking that up in the book or at least looking it up in the FAQ section of this board.
Sorry if I sound mean, but if I recall correctly, this is your second time around on Atkins. So it would benefit you greatly to do this diet properly and not rely on others to get the information for you. You need to take responsibility for your diet. It's your body, your health, your responsibility and your commitment.~Megs~

Re: Veggies
It was yellow squash. I was only inquiring about the veggies to make sure I was right. I have read the book and am reading it again. Yes, this is my 2nd time around but as for being 100% devoted this would be the first. I am trying not to be defensive here but that was kind of harsh. I am sure that you weren't being mean and I know it probably is irritating when people ask questions that are in the book but this board is full of them. Alot of us just want to be sure and it helps talking to people that have succeeded on this diet. I don't carry my book with me everywhere I go, maybe I should start, yes but I didn't today and I did have access to a computer so I thought it would be ok to ask questions. Anyways, I know who is responsible for my body but I do need the support as do all of us here. OK I said my piece in response to yours. No hard feelings..I'm not mad
I was just a little taken a back. And I do hope that I will continue to get responses from you in the future.

Re: Veggies
I have read the book (2 times) and still need to ask things sometimes. I cant refer to my book because I couldnt afford to buy one so I got it from the library. I too ask questions I could probably answer myself if I took the time to find the answer but I didnt think anyone minded. I am really quick myself to answer questions that I know the answers to even if they are in the book.
Now it does get annoying when someone is complaining atkins isnt working and come to find out after they tell ya what they are eating, they havent been following it cause they never even read the book.
But tachielyn doesnt seem to be one of those.
Id have to agree is was a bit..whats the word, snippy. Well, not put as friendly as it could have been. But I know that some of you Mods see these questions so much you have lost patience answering things that ppl can look up themselves and feel you are best helping when being direct and to the point.
I had also wondered a week ago about having 2 cups other veg but then thought about it and figured not since it specifically said 1 cup other and 2 cup salad or all 3 salad. I can understand the question though.Mindy

Tachielyn...........welcome back to the Atkins WOL! Check out the FAQ's forum, there you will find a list of all the vegies and rules of induction.
Also, in the main forum there is a pocket size list one of the members here was kind enough to do and is great to keep in your purse.
I wish you much success.Bren

Re: Veggies
I had my tough love hat on yesterday. See, it makes me sad whenever I see a second-timer repeating the same mistakes that caused them to fall off earlier: being unprepared.
The Induction food list is incredibly important. It tells you what to eat and how much. It also forms the base for the remainder of the diet.
When I was a newbie, I made copies of the foods list and made sure I had a copy with me: one on my frig at home, one in my desk at the office, one in my purse. That food list is an Atkineer's life-line.
The foods list can be found in several places on ADBB.

Re: Veggies
I love that food list, I am one of those funny people that has the list, but I forget to pull it out when grocery shopping, so I get home and always remember ACK I wanted to buy some of (insert food here).

Welcome back Tach!
I kinda did the same thing, went on atkins last year, dropped a bunch of weight then kinda went...meh. I maintained for the rest of the year, then this last june/july jumped back on the weightloss wagon. I wanna get this done dangit!
You will find its like riding a bike, and it will click real good cause you will remember how it works, and don't mind the folks that get excited about the book, I've been here long enough that I know to tell myself a long while ago that they nibble cause they care, so it doesn't bug me. :P

Re: Veggies
.....Adding this to clarify, I do have the book and it IS a wonderful resource too. I loaned it to my sister when she started atkins and when my younger sister told me she wanted to start I grabbed the book, handed it to her, and told her to read it first, cause atkins isn't a diet, its a WOE and if you start you shouldn't/can't stop, she's already lost 20 lbs woot woot woot!
And I told her about this board, I love all the support and good info here.

Re: Veggies
I got my list...well about 5 of them
I'll be spreading them around everywhere.
I started Atkins but have never made it through the induction. Barely made it to day 5 if I'm not mistaken. Today is my 12th day

I am too excited. And no cheating for me
. It has actually been easier than I thought it would be. I wish I would have stuck with it the first 400 times I started!!!

Re: Veggies
Well done - nearly through the first 14 days cheatfree
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!
