  • Water Water everywhere........And so much to drink so little time!

So how much water should I be drinking per day, I figure 8oz for every 44oz of full sugar mountain dew should be ok? (joke).

Seriously though, Im a big guy, 540lbs and im drinking around 100oz's of water a day, is that enough? to much?

Also (and I have to ask this) Everyone seems to have a favorite water, mine is Earth-2-0 which I think is only sold over here in Oregon.... whats everyone elses favorite.. and which water would they not drink (Dasina... bad bad experience in the UK with that).

    See ya!

Hi and Welcome to the board!

As for the water you should be drinking 8 glasses a day plus another for every 25 pounds you want to lose. And..............you'll never regret it!
I drink water.....whenever I can, whatever kind I can. But, just plain ole water.

    Have a wonderful day!

      Hi Jay,

For weight loss I've read that the recommended guidelines is ( 8oz glasses of water plus another 8 oz for every 25 lbs you want to loose but there has to be some cutoff as to too much water.

I know that you shouldn't drink an enxcessive amount of water in a very short period of time as your body can't flush it out fast enough and it can cause serious health problems but I'm not sure what is too much throughout a whole day so maybe someone else can answer that question or a call to your doctor's office should get you an answer.

Congratulations on how much water you're drinking!

Pretty sure water intoxication only happens to athletes like marathon runners?

I drink 100-125oz's a day but could do with drinking more!

Yes, water intoxication......... you have to drink a HUGE amount of water, in a EXTREMELY short period of time.
At one time I was doing about 150-200 .......... never effected me. Only made me lose more!!!
I learned the hard way that not enough water can slow down or stall your weight lose.

I totally agree with Bren. When I don't drink enough of my water, my weight goes back up. Once I start drinking what I should, I have a real good weight loss.

There's also the added benefit of really nice skin!!!!

My favourite water is tap water. (ice cold) other than that I can't tell the difference between the mineral (bottled) water.

There is such a thing as too much, but it's extremely rare. I read once about an unfortunate incident where a gal drank an excessive amount of water (I forgot why). But I do remember when I read it, I thought "How on earth can someone drink THAT much water in one hour?! It didn't sound humanly possible . So, it is possible, but I would think very unusual for someone to drink so much that they'd hurt themself.

Re: Water Water everywhere........And so much to drink so little time!

Yeah the only way to hurt yourself by drinking too much water is by "water-bonging" which I remember some kids dying of a couple years back--apparently they had read about how too much water will mess up your electrolytes, and since they were too young to buy alcohol, they drank water instead.

Luckily, it's not likely that the average person will overdose on water! Drink, drink, drink it up. It flushes toxins out of your body, clears your skin, and boy are you ever lucky if the hottie at work has a desk next to the bathroom--because you will be peeing constantly.

My favorite water is baby/infant water, because it has added flouride. I buy gallons and gallons of it! Tastes just like the water back home in Michigan!

Re: Water Water everywhere........And so much to drink so little time!

it's possible to drink a lot of water and not get sick or hyponeutremia(over hydration) and i probably spelled it wrong. i've trained my body to drink 12 individual 1.9lbs bottles of water a day, so yes it is possible to drink a lot of water. it will differ from person to person and it's best to up your water intake to what you feel is ideal. so if i drink about 364oz a day a good amount i would recommend to you is between 150-200oz.
the only downside to me drinking so much is the constant bathroom breaks and frequently waking up in the middle of the night... it can be good exercise too, walking back and forth that is.

It's kinda gross and not too relevant to Atkins directly, but people really shouldn't be worried about drinking too much water throughout the day. When I was going through BCT in Georgia, most of us regularly drank 9+ one quart canteens of water throughout the day. Now I know we were working hard and it was hot out, so those factors obviously kick in, but you still gotta acknowledge that most of us were between 140 and 160 pounds, probably a significantly less amount than a lot of us.

The only time we "over-hydrated" was when the Drill Sergeants would do what's called forced hydration, where you're basically forced to drink water until you throw up - and that's when it's dangerous and flushes your electrolytes. So unless you're gulping down 5 quarts of water within 10 minutes, I wouldn't worry about overhydration.
