  • Induction food planning

Okay so I'm planning on starting my induction tomorrow and I've gone ahead and bought some food, please let me know if I'm off base with anything. BTW, I'm waiting on some money I'll be getting tomorrow before I go and buy two-weeks worth of food, so keep in mind this isn't going to cover my first 14 days.

    - One-dozen eggs
    - Two links of polish sausage
    - Three chicken breasts
    - Two bags of pepperoni
    - One bag of shredded Romaine lettuce
    - 16 oz. bag of shredded chedder
    - One onion
    - One green pepper

As for the pepperoni and the polish sausage, neither of them have added sugar and the ingrediants didn't seem to contain any kind of sweetener. The polish sausage does, however, have 2g of carbs per 2 oz. Is this too much for induction? Thanks a lot.

That's sounds good!! The polish sausage should be alright as long as you don't eat to much. I like to eat 0 carb meat so I can have my carb in veggies.

Another quick question: Is it okay to kinda binge on Pepperoni during induction?

Well, it's not ok to "binge" on anything )

You can eat until you are satisfied, but don't over-do it. If you're still hungry, have a little bit more 20 min. later. And you could certainly do worse than pepperoni. I personally find it hard to eat more than a serving at one time--I always eat it with a piece of string cheese, and some sort of veggie, like celery, olive, or green pepper, that way I'm eating fat, protein, and a little carb with each meal.

If you are hungry, eat something that has protein and fat. Protein is filling, fat is satisfying.

I'm pretty sure the pepperoni is high in both. 13g fat/serving and 5g protein/serving. I sorta did binge a bit on it today but I think I'm done eating for the day as I really don't feel too hot (nothing induced by the diet, I felt it coming yesterday before I started). But basically I ate my cup of lettuce and my two cups of vegetables, four ounces of cheddar cheese, had two eggs this morning, and basically a lot of pepperoni today. It could be better no doubt, but how do you think I stand for my first day of induction?

Sounds like all acceptable foods! It gets easier in the next few days...the first couple are kind of hard because of cravings (or at least they were for me) but soon you'll lose that urge and feel pretty good.

Just make sure you balance your foods out throughout the day--keep up the good work!

                  Re: Induction food planning

Keep in mind pepperoni is usually very high in sodium, which can cause water retention, and causes many people issues so you may want to limit your intake.

For the polish sausage you mention it does have no sugar but 2g's of carbs, it is possible there are fillers in it (ie wheat, starch etc), you may want to read the ingredients closely, list just in case.

                    Re: Induction food planning

Sadie, I think you were pretty on-target with your comments on the sodium. I lost .5 pounds today but can definately feel the water retention, so I may've been able to lose more. However, that's decent right? Today I'm gonna lay off the pepperoni and see how I do tomorrow. I'll definately incorporate it a bit in the future as a little snack. Here's another idea I posted on another thread but I think the topic has since strayed a bit:

All the sources I've just looked up seem to say .4 - .6 carbs per large / extra large egg. Theoretically, then, for induction, could one make three 2-egg omelettes for meals throughout the day, dividing their cheese and veggies between them and eating their salads inbetween those meals?

Once I can grab some chicken breasts, I'd think about going two omelettes, chicken breast for dinner, one cup a salad inbetween both meals still.

                    Think that'd work?

Can I ask why you would want to buy ready shredded cheese? Wouldnt it be cheaper to by it in a block and grate / shred it yourself?

Of course you can tell me to mind my own business if you like.

The best answer that I can give you is that I'm a horrible shopper. I will definately keep that in mind though when I go ahead and buy more food. Thanks.

BTW - make sure you check the ingredients on pre-shredded cheese, as they often add starches to stop it sticking, which will add carbs as well as making it 'illegal' for induction!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Wow good tip, thanks! I never thought to look at that...guess I need to learn to read ALL labels even on the things I think are whole foods...

K, another question: Could I substitute another cup of salad for my veggies? So 3 cups of salad with no veggies? Not that I plan on making that regular at all, I love me my onions.
