  • Preparing for the Weekend HELP???

Okay, during the week i can pretty much stick to this way of eating without too much struggle, exercise is my struggle during the week. But now comes my first full Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday. I am watching my money so shopping is out lol. But one thing i am craving is pizza, i LOVE LOVE pizza!!! OMG PIZZA ROCKS!!!

So usually i make this pizza thingy atkins style, i take a 2 lbs of ground italian sausage, one hot one mild, and cook it up, then i add in chopped up roma tomatoes at the very end i don't like them to get too saucy, and then black olives and italian spices. And that helps a little to ward off pizza cravings but i eat SOOO much of it, i mean i can literally eat the whole 2 lbs within a 1/2 a day. Which is why its not the best thing for me during the weekends. I usually make it for dinner one weekday night and then portion it out the rest of the week and bring it to work for lunch.

So what do you do to prepare for the weekend? Any good tips, ideas, suggestions etc etc etc??
May you all be losers, Sher

    Sher,

I make snacky type foods and usually have some SF Jello on hand for the sweet tooth. I find it tougher on the weekends too cause I'm out of my routine. I like having veggies, deviled eggs, and I always make a big egg and bacon breakfast on Sat and Sun morning. Usually a big help to start the day off right. Also, remembering my supplements is key!

    Have a good weekend!
    Best Wishes!

Re: Preparing for the Weekend HELP???

Tonight is pizza and movie night with the family. I make regular pizza for them and a little pizza thingy for myself. I take a little ramekin and layer it with some chopped tomatoes, cheese, pepperoni, olives, mushrooms (whatever's at hand) and then top it with another slice of cheese. Then I cook it in the oven while the wings are in there (oh yeah - we have wings too). It takes about an hour but it comes out like pizza topping (without having to rip it off an actual pizza). I have that and a few wings and some salad.

I like to make special meals on the weekend too. Things I don't have time to do during the week like roasts and roasted chickens and such. I also try out new recipes on the weekend so our dinners are pretty gourmet. The weekends are a good time to get your food organized for the coming week as well as trying out new ideas and shopping for new things. I do obsess about food a bit on the weekend but in a good way (i.e. "what the heck is this vegetable and how can I make it into something yummy?")

Re: Preparing for the Weekend HELP???

        Hi Abstract,

Weekends are hard, because most people are not in their normal routine... I try at least one new recipe each weekend and cook all my foods for the week ahead... then they are either in the fridge or freezer for me to grab...

As for the pizza, maybe try to put pizza toppings on a breast of chicken or 2... I use the cutlets. Bake them up, then top with a lil pizza sauce, top w/ cheese and your fav toppings and bake or broil for a few more mins... very tasty and filling...

Also, Have you visited Linda's website? She has the most fabulous recipes... in fact almost all the dishes I am making this weekend are from her sight:

        http://users3.ev1.net/~fontlady/index.html

Here are the ones I am making:

        green enchilada chicken casserole
        baked meatballs
meatloaf patty melt (this is one of the new one this week, can't wait)
sausage quiche squares (another new one)

and then I make deviled eggs and tuna salad, cut up some veggies

I know you said money is tight...so see what you have on hand and then see what you can make until you can go shopping the next time...

        Hope this helps!!!

These are ramekins. You could probably use any kind of small oven proof dish. Even muffin cups, I guess. These are a little bigger than a muffin cup though.

Re: Preparing for the Weekend HELP???

I cook better on the weekends, so it's like a treat for me and it's a break from the same old weekday menues.

Depending on what my plans are, I typically start Saturday and Sunday off with a nice brunch-type meal at 8 or 9 AM: eggs, decaf coffee, some kind of meat (steak, pork chops, etc.). I also toss in a few veggies, like turnip fries, eggplant homefries, etc. Then I do whatever I have planned. Come home and have a nice dinner.

Snacking throughout the day doesn't work for me because I find myself snacking just to snack rather than eating because I'm hungry.

however, I do have a light meal or snack around 2 PM: it could be anything: soup, cheese, tuna salad, egg salad, leftovers from breakfast, etc.

Dinner is about 6 PM and it's something I usually don't have time to prepare during the weekdays. So roasts, somewhat gourmet stuff like stuffed chicken breasts, etc.

If I'm going on a day trip on the weekend. I start with a substantial breakfast. Pack a small meal for mid-day. And again, I'll cook something that I usually don't have during the week or I'll stop by a place and buy something. In my area there are mom-and-pop rib house carry-outs.

What I've found is that if I'm active during the weekend---gardening, hiking, visitin museums, etc. it's easier to stay on plan than when I'm not so active. Plus, all this physical activity counts as exercise! So that's an added benefit.

Abstract--are you on induction, or I should ask, are you in the dairy rung yet? There is a GREAT recipe for pizza that I found on here--the "crust" is made from parmesan, mozzarella, and egg! It is REALLY rich--one piece fills you up! It does have a lot of cheese, so either you could save your cheese allowances for this, or if you're further in the rungs, it shouldn't be a problem!

It is REALLY good! It totally satisfied my "craving" for pizza!

Re: Preparing for the Weekend HELP???

Well, sighs, i don't know if i actually screwed up but i caved in a i shouldn't have but don't think i actually went "off" induction. I DID order a pizza last night, but i asked for no sauce and light on the cheese. Yes these people thought i was weird, but i invited my friend over and she ate the pizza and i had the toppings of double sausage, pepperoni tomatos and black olives. i know it was a heavy meal to have at 8 p.m so i am not going to weigh until Monday probably.

This helped to alleviate some of my stress of the day, i know its no excuse but the concept of ordering and having it i think helped. I know its not the way to handle stress especially stress eating. And i journaled it all afterwards, and this weekend am going to analyze it and figure out how to work it through next time.

i don't think it was the taste i wanted it was the ritual, you know ordering, getting, smelling, that first bite.

I also have 2 slug days on my 6WEC sighs. i haven't posted it yet. After wednesday, my heels and calves hurt so bad i could barely walk. i knew i shoud have pushed through but i took the easy way out with excuses. SOOOOO

That was my last day, full of things i should have handled differently, but i am going to take it as a learning experience. Thank you everyone who tried to ward off disaster for me with your great advice. i guess i need to look to this board as more of a support arena when the going gets tough. Because its been shown there are a lot of tough who have gotten going!!
