  • I Need Some Help And Motivation

    HI EVERYONE, MY NAME IS RANDI, I AM 2O YRS OLD, TURNING 21 IN DECEMBER, WELL I AM ABOUT 40-45 LBS OVERWEIGHT, I AM CURRENTLY 165 AND I WANT TO BE 120. I TRIED THIS DIET ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO AND I FAILED. I SEE EVERYONE ELSE DOING SO WELL AND IT FRUSTRATES ME THAT I CANT SEEM TO STICK TO IT. WELL IM TURNING 21, DECEMBER 29TH AND I DONT WANT TO BE SELF-CONSCIENCE WHEN I GO OUT FOR MY B-DAY, SO I WANT TO LOSE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE BY JAN 1ST, I JUST NEED SOME HELP AND MOTIVATION!

    IS THIS A POSSIBLE GOAL? 40 LBS IN 10 WEEKS?

    Hi Randi, i use to think like you, that i had this major goal and this time to do so in. However, i would like to help you here and tell you that every time i thought like that i would get frustrated and quit when it wasn't doing what i wanted and time's winged chariot kept hurrying near. My advice is this, you'll decide what you want of course, but take it from someone who knows. Eliminate your time frame for you major goal. And focus on the following:

    1. Read the book and Get the plan down. Understand what you are suppose to eat, why you are eating it and learn what you are doing.

    2. Make sure you are drinking significant water for your want and need of your weightloss goals

    3. Start your exercising.

    The weight will fall off, it will do so at its own pace. Your ONLY option is becoming dedicated, and determined and persistant on achieving the above. You do that and the weight will come off. Maybe by your birthday, maybe not. I have seen people achieve it and i have seen people not achieve it. I myself have set weight goals and time aspects and time after time paniced and then gave up when things went bad for a day or so because i didn't think i would make my goal.

    i lost 50 on atkins in 3 months previously. So sure 40 is doable, however, this time around i have been on plan now for 3 weeks and have only lost 8 lbs.

    Do you want this weight off, or do you simply want to look good for your bday? I hate to say this and its been a hard lesson learned, the former has to come before the latter reason or else you are simply doing a diet that will fail, not a plan for life to achieve success. If that makes sense.

    Good luck, i know how you feel wanting to lose it all for your bday, but just start changing your mentality on what you are doing and why, and you may surprise yourself and find yourself 40 lbs lighter by your birthday and a straight plan on what you are doing, or you may not find yourself at goal by your birthday but still determined and motivated and confident of your success after your bday.

      YOUR RIGHT, I DO MAKE GOALS AND GET VERY FRUSTRATED WHEN I DONT SEE WHAT I WANT, AND I GIVE UP, ONLY ALLOWING MYSELF TO GAIN MORE. I JUST WANT TO BE HAPPY AND GET THIS OFF EVEN IF IT TAKES LONGER THAN MY B-DAY. THANX FOR THE ADVICE

        i feel ya!! but save yourself some heartache and dedicate to the plan and the lifestyle to get to goal, maintain it and never have to go from having to only lose 40 and suddenly get to where you have to lose 130 instead. That's what happened to me. Sure i lost 50 in 3 months, but as of today i still have close to 120lbs now to lose because of my stops, starts and frustrations of goals set like you spoke of. Save yourself the heartache and do it right the first time. Maybe for your 21st bday you may still have weight to lose of 40 lbs that may take you a little longer than 10 weeks but do it right and learn it all now and when you are 35 like me, you won't have 130 lbs to lose because you didn't learn anything or keep applying it and have allowed yourself to isolate and become a prisoner of your own making because your weight kept going up and up because you were setting yourself up to fail in the first place. Instead, set yourself up to succeed, and even if you don't lose all 40 by your bday, you WILL have lost something, you will look different and each day, each pound, your confidence will have you so sure of yourself on your bday simply because you are winning.!!!

          If you do decide to stick with atkins for the long run, how about setting minigoals for yourself? Weight loss is VERY difficult to predict--the only thing I can say is that the weigh will come off--eventually.

          There is no set schedule for how our bodies lose weight, and lots of variables can affect the rate in which we lose. If you set minigoals, you have a greater chance of success--don't set a DATE for the minigoal, just pick a small goal, and when you reach it, it will be when your body is ready to reach it. Minigoals also help to keep you accountable.

          It's easier for me to think "hey I'm only 8 pounds away from my first minigoal!" rather than "I still have 60lb. to lose." Which one makes me feel better?

          So look at it in a series of steps, a day-by-day process. And even if you don't lose all of the 40lb. in those 10 weeks, you'll be healthier, more active, and more confident, and well on your way to your final goal.

            Everybody's body works in a different way and the amount of weight you lose might not be the same as somebody else. I myself lost 40lbs in 6 weeks back in 2003 but sadly I fell off the diet and that 40lbs lost turned into 80lbs gained. I am once again on my diet and currently in the induction phase with 3 days down and ive already lost 7lbs but im sure thats just some water weight.

              wow, you guys are really helpful, what do you guys do when those sugar cravings hit! im a sugar addict, candy and soda were my main coarses! so what can help that?

                You can take L-Glutamine for sugar cravings. You can find it at Wal-Mart.

                Regarding hitting a goal, do your best. No matter what you hit by the date, you're goijg to be so much better off!

                  Honestly, this time around i am trying something new, that is not easy.... i am trying to make it a mind control thing. A want vs need understanding in my head. When the cravings hit, i try and talk myself through it, turn my attention to something else, rationalize it and say ya know, you either want to give into the craving or you want to lose this weight. Once you gain control of yourself and your eating habits and your weight, THEN and only then, can you clearly rationalize WHY you are eating based on a craving. In this way, i know that once i am to that point, i will be able to control myself and NOT overindulge and get out of control like i do now. Hope that makes sense.

                    Make a list of why you want to lose weight. Take a before picture. Keep a picture of either yourself when you were thin, or someone else who you would like to look like weight wise to work towards. Write out the pro's and con's of losing weight. Set a small goals, and when you reach your first goal, set another goal to meet. Make it interesting. Exercise, eat delicious food, and learn to enjoy this way of life.
