  • Sos Please Somebody Help Me!!!

I need help. I have been religiously following Induction for the past two and a half weeks, and I have lost less than two pounds. I have been drinking 2.5 liters of water per day, and I have been strictly following the rules of induction. The only variance I have made is to drink one Diet Coke with Splenda with breakfast every day, but I do not think that should hinder my weight loss that much. Also, I have been exercising 6 days a week for at least 45 minutes a day. I know I need to measure, but I have a lot of weight to lose. I would like to see the scale budging more than this. Any suggestions? Any tips? I don't use any condiments with sugar; I eat Atkins bars occasionally; I eat meats, eggs, and acceptable veggies for three meals a day and one snack. PLEASE HELP ME!!! I need to lose 40 pounds to be healthy, and I want to lose 50 pounds by April. I am really trying extremely hard, and it is really disappointing that I haven't lost any more than I have. I planned on doing Induction until Thanksgiving, maybe Christmas...but if I don't start seeing more loss in the next two weeks I guess I will just give up. Please help me if you can. Thanks!

Welcome to the ADBB. Congratulations on your loss so far. A loss is a loss, even though it may not be as fast as what you would like it to be.

It would be very helpful to us if you could please post your menus -- everything you eat and drink -- everything you put in your mouth.

One thing that may be giving you some problems is the Atkins bars. They give many people problems and are known to cause stalls.

I wish you luck in this journey!

Bear in mind that the scales can deceive - they will include in your weight any excess water you may be retaining for any of a number of reasons (especially b4/during TOM), as well as any new muscle you have gained. Are your clothes feeling looser? Has your appetite diminshed? These are the best indicators you are losing fat. On the other hand, as Floydgirl suggested, posting your menu for review is an excellent idea.

Hi, welcome and glad you found us. While we absolutely do not believe in the Atkins bars because they have a tendency to stall out folks, I don't think that is all your problem unless they are a daily treat. List what you ate yesterday,
Are you using fitday.com and tracking your carbs,
Now according to the good doctor you should lose between 5 and 10 pounds during induction and .5 to 2 pounds a week after that.

            Hello aparmour,

Giving up is not an option, not if you want lose the weight. You need to check the Before/After Picture forum and while your at it check out the Success Stories. Each of us loses weight at a different rate, no two people are alike. Remember a loss is always better than a gain. We didn't gain this weight overnight and in keeping with that, we can't lose it over night. This board is excellent for inspiration, motivation and support. Don't stop until the miracle takes place.

Don't try to shoot for deadlines for weight. It gives you too big a margin for self-sabotage. Look at you. You're already freaking out about hitting a goal, and that isn't healthy for you, and it makes you more likely to fall off of the wagon as a direct result.

Ditch the diet beverage and the Atkins bars, keep track of what you're eating in fitday, and make sure you only weigh yourself (or keep track) only once a week. Variances occur due to many reasons: commencement of exercise, female menses, water retention, you name it!

The scale will move in the right direction, but don't try to use your reasoning powers to make it happen. It happens! And don't stress about hitting goal by X-date or your eyes will fall out. It just makes it stressful! Do your best, enjoy the voyage, and know you are sososososososososo much healthier now than you have ever been before!

You will make it through this!

Re: Sos Please Somebody Help Me!!!

Actually, I believe Dr. A. said we would lose 5% to 10% of our excess weight during induction. So, if you have to lose 50 lbs, that would mean you should lose 2.5 - 5 lbs during induction. Which means you are pretty much on track. However, I wonder how much better you could have done if you'd done a totally clean induction without the bars and the soda. As others have said, ditch them now! They aren't doing you any favours.

Another thing, if you are fairly new to exercise and you are suddenly doing 45 minutes a day almost every day (which is excellent, by the way - good for you!) then your body will retain water in the muscles for a while.

Take your measurements too, because muscle takes up less room that fat. You may be losing fat and gaining muscle and getting smaller, but the scale has no idea of what you are doing. It can't tell the difference between fat, muscle and water (it's really a stupid little thing - I don't know why so many of us rely on it - it really has no idea what it's talking about most of the time - lol). Check your measurements every couple of weeks and I'm sure you'll see more accurate results.

                Good luck!

Re: Sos Please Somebody Help Me!!!

Thanks for all the great responses. I have always exercised at least three days a week, but I just ate all the junk that I wanted to eat. Now I am incorporating cardio, weights, and pilates to make sure I am covering all my bases and getting at least 45 minutes a day.

I can quit the caffeine; I have done it before so...Does anybody know if Diet Rite would be okay to drink? I have an entire case of those at home; they have no caffeine, no aspartame, no calories, no sugar, and no sodium. Also, is Crystal Light okay? I just get sick of plain water all the time.

                  As for the menus:

                  Yesterday I ate:
                  1 deviled egg
1/2 of an Atkins Peanut Granola Bar

1 small salad with 1 cup lettuce, 1 slice of sharp cheddar, and a piece of grilled chicken, 2 tbsp of Ranch Dressing

1 Jr. Bacon Cheese Burger (Wendy's) without the buns (mayo and veggies only)

6 Chicken Wings with Hot Sauce

2 cans of Diet Coke with Splenda, 80 ounces of water

Yesterday was crazier than most because I had to pick my husband up from the airport after work, and I didn't have time to cook my own dinner.

                  A NORMAL day would be:

An omlette with cheese, jalapenos, and diced tomatoes; eggs with 3 slices of nitrate free bacon, or an Atkins advantage bar if I am in a hurry.

Lunch- Always a salad- lettuce, cheese, and either pepperoni or whatever meat I had the night before on top. I use very little dressing, but I do use a bit of homemade ranch or blue cheese.

Dinner- Chicken, Hamburger Steak, or stir fry steak; usually cooked in the George Foreman grill with asparagus, broccoli, coleslaw, or a small side salad (same as lunch)

Snack- cheese, pepperoni slices, scoop of chicken salad, a spoonful of sugar free peanut butter, or devilled eggs

Does this look okay? What do I need to do?

Also,I keep testing myself daily with the strips, and they always color really purple. That gives me a little boost, but I had hoped to lose more weight. I am going to keep at it, and I am NOT going to weigh myself for two more weeks.

                      hi
Your 'normal' menu looks better except for the Atkins bar and the peanut butter. you are planning to have some veggies with all three meals which is great.

BTW it is not only the possibility of the bars causing stalls and cravings that makes them not suitable for induction. It is the ingredients which are NOT all on the list of approved foods listed in DANDR. Likewise the peanut butter would not be 'legal' till you reach the legumes rung/level of the second phase of Atkins.

Good for you for deciding not to weigh for a couple of weeks too!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
