  • NEWBIE... Day 11

Hi All, just wanted to introduce myself. I am new to this... second time on Atkins.. but this time I am doing it right and fully committed. This is day 11 for me and I am going strong. I really like how I am feeling and think this is a great place to share my energy and even learn from you all.

I do have a ?, do you think that is a good idea to eat the Atkins Advantage bars during Induction? although I have seen progress.. I just get nervous that I shouldn't be eating them... they taste so good, I enjoy eating them. I usually have one as a snack, and my meals throughout the day consist of veggies, meat, eggs and a small amount of cheese.

    Any opinions?

It's been the collective experience of ADBB that the bars/shakes/etc. have the tendency to slow down or prevent weight loss. So we don't recommend them during Induction because your results on Day 15 of Induction, helps you to figure out how to proceed with your Atkins (Ch. 11-13 DANDR 2002)

This is a "your mileage may vary" thing and you might not be adversely affected by these low carb convenience foods. But on the other hand, you might be.

There is a 'bar' thread in the Main Atkins Forum that you might want to read through.

        Re: NEWBIE... Day 11

        Welcome!! Glad you found us!

Regarding the bars...yeah, maybe I'll just leave it alone...JK! There is debate about them. I used them VERY infrequently, like when I traveled, but after a little while...they tasted really horrible to me. They are so dense, sweet, and just feel artifical.

My advice would be to ditch them entirely, or use them VERY sparingly. It's my opinion that you'll find better results by feeding yourself healthy, natural foods. Also, part of this WOE is to break your habits. If you continue using those, then it's unlikely you'll break that habit of giving in to a sweet tooth. I had the worst sweet tooth sometimes and to be honest, I rarely even want sweets anymore because my palate has changed and it's not appealing to me anymore. I feel I'm better off for it.

Best of luck, and we're here if you need anything!

Thank you for your responses... you are definitely right about breaking the habit. I have a very strong sweet tooth and tend to feed that sweet tooth with the bars. I am going to take your advice and hold back on the bars for now.. as I really want to get the most out of Induction... which I plan on extending past the 14 days. As for weight loss, I think that it is working out pretty good for me... almost 8lbs down.
