  • Getting Enough Fat??

Hi guys! I have a quick question. I am having a hard time getting the right ratio of fat in my diet, mostly becuase I can't have ANYTHING with eggs in it... so I make tuna and chicken salad with mustard, I can't have creamy dressings either so salad is kind of hard too. Is there a way to add fat without eating a stick of butter?

All you need is a pat of butter with a meal to even out your ratios--fat is a very calorie-dense food, meaning a little goes a long way.

You can also use olive oil--that's a good source of fat, or just eating plain olives (olives are a "special food."

Can you have heavy cream? It's a good sauce base/thickener. And it's about 90% fat.

What does your fitday ratio say you need still, percentagewise?

I find that eating eggs with cheese pops those numbers right up there! Or eating some sliced pepperoni, cheese and green olives. I rarely have to add anything to make the fat contents higher, but I've been low-carbing on and off since '84!

That's gotta be tough - no eggs also means no mayo, and if you can't have creamy dressings (assuming you can't have cheese either? )

Avocado is an excellent choice for boosting your fat, plus after induction, you get to add more foods, such as nuts. In the mean time, you don't need a stick of butter; you can mix and match different oils, butter and animal fats to get what you need. I frequently will cook my veggies in bacon grease, olive oil and/or butter, and often add a juicy piece of marbled beef to that. Have sausage and other processed/cured meats such as sausage in moderation if you must, they're high in fat, but be sure to count any carbs (try to avoid ones with lots of fillers).

          Re: Getting Enough Fat??

Not only are there many alternatives to eggs for healthy fat, but it's good to have variety anyway.

Susan, Cleo, and Julie gave great suggestions, here are some others I use and/or found:

          Induction safe:

          Olive oil
          Canola oil
          Avocado
          Black olives
          Green olives
          bacon (a personal favorite)
          mackerel
          salmon
          trout

          Save for owl and beyond:

          Peanut oil
          Sesame oil
          Walnut oil
          Soybean oil
Flaxseed oil (should be consumed raw and not used in cooking)
          Grape seed oil
          Almond butter
          Tahini/sesame paste

buy your tuna in oilve oil and just use that in your salad

butter any flavored olive or nut oil.

There is a mayo in the cooking that doesn't use eggs it uses lemon juice as the emoliant

Wow! Thanks for all the replies! FYI for the last few days my fat was about 45%, but I'm going to try these ideas. Bacon, avacado, olives... yum!

the increased fat will help kil any cravings and appetite too. remember it only tates a klittle bit of fat to alter the rations Dr Atkins in DANDR suggests teasppoons not cups of fat. Not2LATE has a stickie about it in the 14 day forum
