Water!! If you really want to kill the craving, you need to stop drinking it all together. I know its tough, but your body will thank you in the end!

that sucks but you are just going to have to stop. it is possible that they will cause you not to drop the weight.

      good luck

Up until 3 weeks ago when I went back onto this WOL, I drank can after can of diet soda - today 3 weeks in, I haven't had a single one and only drink water - after about 3 days, your body gets used to the water and starts to crave it - just be strong for a few days and the need will pass.

I was hooked on diet soda too. It's probably scary how many diet pepsis I could put away. Switching to water is so much better for you and the cravings for soda will stop. Try putting some lemon or cucumber slices in your water.

Diet coke is probably the thing that I found the hardest to stop having, it took resolve but I got there in the end.

I can definitely feel your pain, Odepity.

I was never able to give it up entirely. I have one twelve ounce can for lunch everyday. It may have slowed my weight loss, but how would I know?

I am sure that I would be better off without it, but at least it is a far cry from what I was having before! So, at least try to cut back...

Re: diet soda - I cant stop!

I suggest that you try club soda and teas. Decaf tea is best for the plan, but take steps in this because you will have withdrawals like headaches and loss of energy for a few days. It is really hard but you can do it!!!

I have had a huge diet coke addiction and still struggle from time to time. I would drink 2-3 44oz glasses with ice a day!!! I have switched to mainly water and tea. I am still trying to get to all decaf tea, and I am getting there. I also found this summer that I enjoy club soda that says no sodium no calories. The fizz helps and I realized that I was more addicted to the fizz than the flavor of diet coke. It is a huge struggle and I have really gotten along way with it. Now I have noticed like yesterday I got one and finished less than 1/3 of it. I did not even enjoy it!!

I know that you can do it too! It really makes a difference. You will feel so much better! Here's to your beating it!

We should do a poll on how many of us were addicted to diet coke...it calls me at fortnight like mad!

I feel better and lose faster when I don't have it...but as mentioned above...i don't think one 12 ounce can a day will do much damage...just my opinion.

I agree. Now I don't think we should drink several cans a day. But.... I've seen advice given that no coffee or soda is allowed. But the book says decaf coffee and tea are both allowed. It also says diet soda is allowed as long as it's sweetened with Splenda. Diet Rite would be legal as it's also caffeine free, and some of the other companies are starting to add a few with Splenda.

As long as we don't go overboard of them, one a day and the occasional cup of coffee or tea are fine. Dr. Atkins said so. It should be on an individual basis to know if your body handles it. If it causes cravings and slows your losses, certainly then cut it out. But definitely cut out the caffeinated ones.

Re: diet soda - I cant stop!

I was a total addict, I mean, drinking 8 or so cans a day. I LIVED for Diet Dr Pepper. I would spend over $20 a week in soda for MYSELF. Caffiene was a harder addiction for me to give up than CARBS! So if I can do it, you can do it.

I gave up caffiene, and haven't had it for almost 4 months. I drink water with lemon slices all day, everyday, and I've grown to love it. I was not really a water person before (when I was a total caffiene junky) but now it's basically all I drink. Just try giving up the caffiene for a week and see how you feel.

For a treat I'll drink an Italian soda (YUMMMMM!), tea, or sometimes flavored water.

Re: diet soda - I cant stop!

My advise is a bit different. If this way of life is going to succeed for you, the first thing you need to do is drop the self-defeating word "can't". See the title to your post? "Diet Soda - I can't stop!" Short of someone holding a gun to your head and forcing you to drink it, you can, indeed, stop. By simply using the words "I CAN'T" you are reinforcing your own belief that it is humanly impossible for you to stop drinking soda.

If soda went off the store shelves tomorrow, guess what? You'd stop If someone stood in front of you and offered you a million dollars not to drink soda for a month, guess what? I bet you'd stop.

You CAN stop. Whether or not you choose to stop (or switch to Diet Rite after Induction or drink water or any of the other advise you've gotten here) is up to you.

                              It's always all about choices.

                              Good luck!
