  • i feel sick...

    is this normal? i'm 2 1/2 days in and i feel dreadful, shaking, dizzy, sick (to the point of not being able to eat anything at all) help! should i have some sugar or just ride it out?

    No--your yuckiness is your body trying to get rid of the last of the sugar. If you eat sugar now, you'll just go through it again. It's called induction flu...it should be over shortly and you'll be getting an awesome burst of energy!

      Chapter 11 DANDR 2002, Dr. Atkins devotes and entire section to "Addiction and Withdrawal".

      When you suddenly stop eating a food or ingredients you are used to, as you do when you start Atkins, you many experience withdrawal.
      Withdrawal symptoms vary widely, ranging from fatigue, faintness and palpitations to headache and cold sweats
      Bad as they seem, experiencing withdrawal symptoms is really good news. The withdrawal period is usually completed in three days, and afterward you should feel better than ever, unless, of course, you re-addict yourself.
      The more severe your withdrawal symptoms, the more you stand to gain from abandoning the food that is causing them. A food that demands to be eaten daily is often a key to disordered metabolism. It can run your life, as well it ruin it.

          Mine started on the 3rd day, and lasted about 6-8 hours--sort of how long the typical stomach flu or migraine lasts. Everybody is different--don't want to freak you out, but I know some people felt ill for days. After you get through it, you'll feel better than you've ever felt, no joke. Keep with it and drink lots of water--honestly it helps. The thought made me feel gross (all I wanted to drink was a diet coke), but I started drinking water anyway and did feel lots better. Also take some tylenol or aleve or motrin ib if you haven't already...that should help somewhat.

            Mine lasted only a couple days, but its different for each person. Know that you will get through it though, and you'll feel tons better when you get to the other side of it! this is your body's way of cleaning itself out. Hang in there, its almost over!

                Congratulations!! You are sick. That means that you are doing this right! Hang in there. For me, induction flu tends to last about three days. Not to scare you, but if you hang tough, you will come out the other side feeling great!!

                rung 3 - seeds, nuts (mostly sprinkled on salads)
                rung 4 - berries, melon

                rung 6 - beans, hummus
                rung 7 - other fruits
                rung 8 - carrots/ potatoes (nah, prolly not)
                rung 9 - whole grains (fresh Dutch breads...)
                Major Goal - 128 lbs/ healthy range
